“A lot of people want the Lord to use them. I pray every day for the Lord to use me …”
“But when He’s trying to use you and when you feel that call and that tug on your heart strings, do you move your feet? Do you move?”
A story of love has recently come out of York County, South Carolina from the heart of a young woman who chose to move, to answer a calling from by God.
And when she explained on the verge of tears how God used her in that moment in a Facebook live video, the story went viral.
Amanda Riggan, a FedEx driver with a servant’s heart for God, is at the center of a story of a kindness that bespeaks of the love we, as Christians, should all have for each other. She is shining a light that we should all be trying to shine towards those around us.
Jesus told us in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” We are to show people the light of God through how we treat others.
Amanda’s day started out as normal as many others as she started her FedEx route, just a normal person in a sea of other people.
She delivered a couple of packages to a woman who was suffering inside. Being nice, Amanda asked the woman how her holidays had been.
This woman, being honest, told Riggan that the holidays “were not good.” She said her husband was sick and that he had cancer and it was clear that she was very worried about him.
Riggan, a bit shocked and unsure as to how to respond, changed the subject and moved on to her next stop. However, the worried woman stayed on her mind. She couldn’t stop thinking about her.
Amanda had done about 20 more stops when she could bear it no longer. She had to go back and offer some hope to that woman. She felt God tugging on her heart and she wanted to answer Him.
She went back to the troubled woman’s house and rang the doorbell. When the woman opened the door, she smiled.
Riggan asked her if she could pray with her. The woman, eyes filled with tears, came onto the porch and squeezed Riggan tight. The two prayed together and Riggan continued with her route.
“She broke down … she squeezed me so tight … she held my hand so tight.”
“That was the most genuine hug I’ve had in a long time.”
Riggan decided to share this powerful moment to try to inspire other Christians to be the hands and feet of God. She urges us to take a look within ourselves and examine our willingness to serve God, even in our normal everyday lives.
“But when He’s trying to use you and when you feel that call and that tug on your heart strings, do you move your feet? Do you move?”
It is a question that we should all be asking ourselves. Do we move to serve God when we feel that He is asking us to serve?
“If you’re praying for the Lord to use you in people’s situations, when He is giving you a chance, do it! If not, you’re going to continue to think about it and think about it and regret it.”
This video of what happened that day and her question to others of Faith has now gone viral. No doubt it is being used to inspire others to do more and to pray that same prayer every day: Lord use me!
We must be willing to listen and obey when the LORD is trying to tell us that there is something that He needs us to do. It is a truth that this young woman, this servant of God, has discovered. And a truth that she is trying her best to share with others.
We are the light of the world, and if we don’t share that light with others, then we are surely not fulfilling the purpose that Christ has for us. We must shine our light as a candle in a darkened room. You never know, you may be the only light that someone will ever see.

Riggan has been serving others for quite some time, doing her best to be this light. She runs a non-profit called “Hungry Heroes.” When she is not working, Riggan uses her organization to feed hungry veterans and first responders.
Please, let us pray for God to use us and don’t forget to listen to that still, small voice, urging you to move your hands and feet and do something for the Kingdom of God.

May our beloved Father use us all as a blessing to those around us.
