Nicole Roche, a wife and mother of 3 young children, received news no person wants to hear – she had stage 4 cancer.
As her family started to navigate the new norm, everything was progressing as well as could be expected until her 4-year-old son wasn’t feeling well – and a quick ER visit revealed he too had an aggressive form of cancer.
But amongst unspeakable pain and crisis – Nicole’s faith in Jesus shone like a bright light – and her testimony is bound to encourage you.
To start – one can’t even imagine receiving a cancer diagnosis – never mind TWO within a matter of months – one of them being a precious child.
Situations like these remind us how this world is not our home, and how the curse of sin continues to wreak havoc by an enemy who seeks to kill and destroy.
But even upon receiving another devastating diagnosis, Nicole didn’t raise her fist at the sky and curse God – or pity herself.
She didn’t make herself out to be the victim – or get angry at God.
Instead she used this unspeakable crisis to show those around her (and the world) – that God is sovereign and she trusts Him completely.
On Facebook, she wrote part of her testimony in an excerpt:
“I’ve spent a lot of time imagining “my story” when it comes to cancer. I’ve pondered on how it’s changing me as a person and where it will lead me.
What I’ve learned now is that it’s time to let go of the “story” because God has written one SO MUCH BIGGER than I could ever have imagined. I never, in a million years, would have written it this way.
But he has.
And nothing he does is without purpose.
God loves our son more than I ever could with my human heart, and he has a plan for both of us, and he has designed it this way for us to walk the road together. I didn’t choose this, but I’m ready for it, I accept it, and I surrender to it.”
Wow.
Talk about living out one’s faith!
As she walks through the storm – Nicole knows that God is the Author of her life – and that despite what is happening, He has plans for her – and her son – which are bigger than she knows.
The truth is, none of us, without the supernatural power of Jesus, would be able to face such an intense crisis with grace.
We don’t know why God allows these things to happen, but we do know that He is good, all the time.
Please keep Nicole and her family in your prayers as they continue to fight for their lives to beat back cancer.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
