Deborah Emmanuel Yakubu was a Christian college student who had a bright future ahead of her.
Tragically, her life was cut short as a video revealed she was beaten and stoned to death – and even set on fire.
But what would cause this Christian girl to be stoned?
Those close to the horrific tragedy said Yakubu was falsely accused of insulting Muhammad and Islam by a Muslim man.
Apparently, this man had asked her out and she declined – which caused a chain reaction of horrific events.
Yakubu had also made statements in a WhatsApp group praising Christ for passing her exams.
When she was asked to retract her statements and apologize, she refused.
Muslim students determined that she insulted Muhammad – and so they dragged her through the street before beating and stoning her to death.
Upon learning what happened, cries were heard around the world demanding the government in Nigeria prosecute the men who killed Yakubu.
Morning Star News reported:
“In the United States, Farooq Kperogi, a Nigerian professor of journalism and emerging media at Kennesaw State University in Kennsaw, Georgia, said in a Facebook post that the “cowardly, homicidal beasts” who killed the Christian woman also pray for God to save them from the “bandits that have made their communities to perpetually drown in oceans of blood.”
“The monsters in that video are easily identifiable,” said Kperogi, a Muslim. “The Sokoto state government must immediately apprehend them and make an example of them. If that doesn’t happen, this kind of murderous barbarism will continue. Nigeria can’t survive indiscriminate, religion-inspired murders of innocent people.”
As it turns out, two Muslim men were arrested for killing Yakubu and once it was discovered they were apprehended, Christian churches and businesses were robbed and destroyed.
Residents spoke out and cried for the world to continue to pray for Christians living in Sokoto, Nigeria whose lives are being destroyed.
Morning Star News continued:
“Sokoto resident Precious Arigu requested prayer.
“So far, two churches [were damaged] and dozens of shops belonging to Christians have been looted and then destroyed by these Muslims,” Arigu said. “Please be in prayers for those of us who are Christians living in Sokoto.”
Sadly, this isn’t the first attack on Christians in Nigeria.
In fact, Nigeria has long been on the Open Doors list as one of the top 10 most dangerous countries for Christians, and according to Morning Star News, Nigeria held the top spot for the highest number of Christians killed for their faith last year.
While Christians in Nigeria continue to be slaughtered – they remain steadfast in their faith.
Biden may have removed Nigeria from the State Department’s list of religious freedom violators, but please know that Christians in Nigeria continue to be persecuted at a high rate, and they need our fervent prayers.
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Deborah Emmanuel Yakubu as they mourn the loss of her life.
We stand in solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters in Nigeria and pray the Lord will continue to give them His supernatural strength and peace during such hostility and chaos.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
