Ashfaq Masih is a Christian who owned a bicycle repair shop in Pakistan where he led a peaceful and quiet life.
But one day, a Muslim man came into his shop asking for a free repair – stating the reason should be because he was a devoted Muslim.
However, after Masih refused – and mentioned he was a Christian – a series of events followed – and now Masih is sentenced to die.
All Masih had said was that he followed Jesus – and wasn’t interested in the man’s status as a Muslim.
The Muslim man accused Masih of disrespecting Muhammad – and he was arrested.
For the past 5 years, Masih has served time in jail – away from his family.
Even more horrific – he’s innocent.
As it turns out – Masih says he was set up by nearby Muslims who owned competing bicycle repair shops – and claims they sent in the Muslim man to try and implicate him in a blasphemy case, reported Morning Star News.
There was no evidence that Masih insulted Muhammad – so one would think a judge would see through the conspiracy and grant him his freedom.
But sadly – just the opposite happened.
Not only was Masih found guilty – but he was sentenced to die.
Morning Star News reported:
“The attorney said that the judge disregarded his pleas to give the benefit of the doubt to Masih as there was no evidence against him, “but the judge handed Masih the death sentence” on July 4.
Masih’s brother, Mehmood Masih, said the family was reduced to tears following the judgment.
“Ashfaq’s daughter was 3 years old when he was arrested [five years ago],” he told Morning Star News. “We don’t know how much more time she will have to wait to be with her father.”
Disrespecting the Muslim prophet is a serious offense in Muslim countries – and often carries a sentence of death.
But since there was no evidence, the family was hoping for a miracle – so they were absolutely devastated when the judge played into the hands of the men wishing to implicate Masih.
Masih’s brother expressed his heartache and grief – but claimed they wouldn’t give up just yet.
Morning Star News continued:
“Everyone knows that trial courts give death sentence to all those charged under Section 295-C, even if there’s no proof against them,” he said.
“We were mentally prepared but still hoped for a miracle. My brother was very sad and disappointed when the court announced its verdict and asked me what we will do next.”
Sadly – this isn’t the first time a Christian in Pakistan was framed by someone seeking to do them harm or has been punished because of their faith in Jesus Christ.
All around the world our brothers and sisters in Christ continue to be tortured and persecuted by those who hate Jesus.
We must continue to pray for all of those living in hostile countries – that they will remain strong through unspeakable torment.
And let’s pray God performs a miracle for Masih and his family – as we know He is able.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
