Two Christian nurses are facing life in prison and one was even attacked with a knife for her “crime.”
But once you hear the alleged crime they committed – you’re bound to be outraged.
Hospital staff reported these nurses to the authorities for allegedly scratching a sticker off a cupboard that had contained the Quran – and now their lives are in danger.
In Pakistan, doing such a thing against the Quran is considered “blasphemy” and comes with a severe penalty.
When the rumor spread that these nurses had disgraced the “prophet,” enraged mothers gathered outside calling for their arrest and even threatened to kill them.
The American Center for Law and Justice reported:
“Charges have been filed under section 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which states that “[w]hoever willfully defiles, damages or desecrates a copy of the Holy Qur’an or of an extract therefrom or uses it in any derogatory manner or for any unlawful purpose shall be punishable with imprisonment for life.”
This means that, if convicted, both women would be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Generally, trial courts are known to convict those accused of blasphemy due to pressure from angry mobs. Even in situations where the higher courts have ultimately overturned convictions, the accused spend years in prison.”
A social media video shows an angry employee gathering the other employees in the room and shouting vulgarities at the Christian nurse.
He proceeded to accuse her of blasphemy against his “prophet” – and then attacked her with a knife.
By the grace of God, the blade fell off and the nurse survived the attack with only minor injuries to her arm.
In Pakistan, because of the blasphemy law, many innocent people are punished for crimes they never committed.
Even worse, many people use the law as an excuse to seek revenge on those they don’t like.
And while those who are convicted of insulting Islam or Mohammed could face death, those who falsely accuse them face no charges at all.
Clearly this unbalance is deliberate and made to discriminate against those considered a religious minority.
The truth is, Christians in hostile countries will continue to be attacked and persecuted even when they are innocent.
We must remember to never stop praying for our Christian brothers and sisters around the world who are subject to unjust laws.
Let’s pray these innocent Christian nurses won’t be convicted and can have their freedom restored.
And remember – even those who deny Christ and worship false prophets can still come to Christ.
The power of Jesus can soften even the hardest of hearts.
If you have Muslims in your sphere of influence, don’t be afraid to share the life-changing truth of the Gospel with them – you just might lead them to Christ!
