During a typical college graduation ceremony, common protocol is to have students receive their hard-earned diploma – and shake the president’s hand.
But a group of students at Seattle Pacific University didn’t shake their president’s hand – instead they handed him a rainbow flag as they walked across the stage.
The publicity stunt was planned – and just wait until you hear the reason why.
Seattle Pacific University is a religious university affiliated with the Free Methodist Church USA.
So why would a group of students at a religious university hand their president a rainbow flag in support of the LGBT movement?
To protest.
Because of Seattle Pacific University’s religious beliefs, they will not hire an employee that goes against their values – which includes not hiring employees who choose to “identify” as LGBT or “transgender.
Of course, this shouldn’t be a surprise – but some college students were outraged once they heard the news.
Sadly, today’s generation likes to pick and choose which verses of Scripture to apply to their lives – instead of basing their lives off how Scripture directs them to live.
So to make their voices heard and protest against the university’s refusal to hire LGBT employees– a group of students hijacked their graduation ceremony, turning it into a publicity stunt – and vowing not to back down until the university changed their policy.
CNN reported:
“About 50 students were given pride flags before arriving at the ceremony, Seattle Pacific University student and organizer Chloe Guillot told CNN.
“It started just as a conversation among students that we didn’t really want to shake the president’s hand at graduation,” Guillot said. “So, we thought what can we do instead of that? And the idea came up: why don’t we hand out a pride flag?”
Guillot, who said she will return to Seattle Pacific as a graduate student, said after giving interim President Pete Menjares a pride flag Sunday, she told him, “We’re not going to stop until the policy changes.”
Of course, what these students fail to understand is those who hold deep values based on the Bible answer to God – not a bunch of college kids.
God’s word is clear – He made each of us uniquely male or female – and His design is perfect.
The enemy may try to blind the eyes and minds of unbelievers and wonder if God “made a mistake” – but Scripture is clear.
As Christians – we are to follow His Word – and serve Him – even if the world does not agree or understand.
The scary thing is – the Biden administration is working overtime to push the LGBT agenda into every area of our public sphere.
Some Christian organizations already fear they’ll be forced to hire those who fundamentally disagree with their values or else face discrimination lawsuits.
But at least for now – Seattle Pacific University is holding strong to their convictions – let’s hope they continue to hold the line.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
