Without warning or legal grounds, Chinese officials targeted Christian fishermen, and you won’t believe why.
These fishermen were stunned as communist officials approached their private boats and started removing their crosses and other symbols of Christianity.
And you’ll be horrified when you hear the demands they placed on them.
The boats of fishermen are private property, and they are legally allowed to display crosses on their boats if they so choose.
For these fishermen who have given their life to Christ, displaying a cross on their boat is an important tradition – and one that doesn’t cause harm to anyone.
And even though the Constitution protects these Christians, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) never seems to follow it.
In their latest attempt to silence the name of Christ, brutal officials demanded all fishermen remove any symbol of Christianity from their boats – and if they refused, be denied a permit to fish.
They also warned further punishment such as denying them the right to even purchase gasoline or drive their boats.
The fishermen were outraged at being denied the right to have a cross displayed on their boat and began to voice their concerns online.
“The government is completely unreasonable. Fishing boats are our personal property. We have the right to put crosses on our boats. Religious freedom is written in the Constitution. However, it is just empty talk. The government never enforces the Constitution.”, reported ChinaAid.
Of course, it’s clear the CCP has no interest in giving Christians the freedom to express their faith.
“Our boats are our personal property. The county government is destroying personal property when they forcibly remove crosses, isn’t it? Why do they only remove crosses, but not signs and slogans from other religions? Why do crosses bother them? If they don’t like a cross, why can’t they simply regard it as logo of “The Red Cross?”, ChinaAid reported.
While these stories are sad, they aren’t shocking. Christians in China have long faced trouble and persecution for expressing their faith.
According to Open Doors USA’s World Watch List, China is still ranked one of the worst countries for the persecution of Christians.
The CCP wants total control over Christians – going so far as to alter what they preach from the Bible!
Even Chinese Christian pastors hosting a church service via Zoom were raided and told to stop preaching.
But while the CCP can raid church services, persecute Christians, and even tear down crosses…
…they can never silence the name of Jesus.
Christianity is continuing to spread throughout China, and the Word of God never returns void.
May God continue to soften the hearts of those seeking to persecute these Chinese Christians, and may He give strength to those who are seeking to do His will and make His name known – regardless the cost.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
