Hawa Amoti grew up in a Muslim home, but she began having dreams about Jesus and wanted to know more about who He was.
She decided to visit her Christian neighbor one morning – who explained the Gospel to her and the incredible gift of salvation.
By God’s grace, Hawa went to church that morning with the Christian family and accepted Christ. But she could’ve never known that once she came home, the unthinkable would happen.
The Christian neighbor stated they had a beautiful afternoon together – and that Hawa even joined their family for lunch after church.
Hawa was only 28-years-old and had her entire life and future ahead of her.
But sadly, once she left her neighbor’s house and returned home, her brother and father were waiting for her.
They had heard she was at a Christian church – and were filled with rage.
And their hatred of Jesus and anger at Hawa’s “betrayal” for leaving the Islam faith caused them to respond with violence.
Morning Star News reported:
“Her father, Haji Shariifu Agaba, and brothers had already learned that she had been seen worshipping Christ at church when she arrived outside their home, one of her siblings said. Agaba ordered his sons to seize and beat her, then took a sharp knife and pierced her eyes, said a brother of Amoti who tried to defend her.
“I want to remove these eyes so that you stop seeing churches forever – even if you die, we are not going to bury you,” Agaba told her, according to the brother, whose name is withheld for security reasons.”
Tragically, Hawa ended up losing her life – as she had profuse bleeding from her eyes.
While she is safe in the arms of Jesus now, having her life taken at the hands of her own family is pure evil.
Sadly, many families are willing to torture and even kill their own family members once they find out they’ve left Islam to become a Christian and follow Jesus.
As Christian Life Daily previously reported, one family was sprayed with acid (even the 13-year-old daughter) after relatives learned they had become Christians.
And one 27-year-old mother and her two children were brutally hung after attending a Christian church on Christmas day.
These martyrs found the truth in Jesus – and were willing to leave their former lives behind to follow Him.
They knew the cost was risky– but their love for the Lord and desire to obey Him made them fearless and steadfast in their desire to stay faithful – no matter the cost.
What an example for the rest of us.
We must continue to pray for our brothers and sisters all around the world who risk death for choosing to follow Jesus.
And let us especially lift up our brothers and sisters in Uganda – who continue to face extreme persecution for their faith.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
