When temptation seems to be lurking around the corner – you may feel the pull is too strong to resist.
After all – the Enemy is known to send us temptations custom made just for us.
But the good news is, no temptation will ever come into our lives except what is common to all men – and if you find yourself struggling it is crucial to meditate on this important Biblical verse.
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” – 1 Corinthians 10:13
Wow – what an encouraging verse to remember.
We start with knowing that God is faithful – He’s been faithful through the ages – and He’s faithful today.
He knows our weaknesses, which is why He’s promised to send His spirit to all who profess Jesus as Lord to help us in our times of trouble.
One of the best things you can do when you feel tempted is immediately take that thought captive and confess it to God!
God already knows your heart – and He knows what you struggle with.
But by acknowledging it and asking Him for supernatural strength – the temptation already loses some of its power.
You see, the Enemy works in secrecy and through isolation – he likes to get believers alone and overwhelmed with feelings of shame and failure.
If you struggle with something particular on a regular basis – it might be helpful to join a support group, get individual therapy, or even seek an accountability partner.
Whether it’s the temptation to drink away your problems or emotions, look at pornographic images, or binge eat when stressed – there are other people who are struggling with the same exact thing!
By having a trusted accountability partner who knows your struggles – they can help you avoid backsliding or going down a dark path.
As believers, we were never meant to walk through life alone – or struggle alone.
And while sometimes the temptation seems so intense – remember it’s just a moment – and the “feeling” we experience will pass.
Of course, one of the best ways to resist temptation is to continue to walk in wisdom and submit yourself to the will of God – which means reading through His Word and meditating on what it says.
God is not some sadistic being in the sky just waiting to “punish” or “tempt you” hoping you’ll slip up.
Instead, He is loving and patient, wanting no one to suffer, but all to fall back into obedience. And if you ask Him for help with a sincere heart – He has promised to be there for us.
So fellow Christian – resist the urge to believe the lie that you are alone in your struggle.
Know that while your temptation is real, you CAN overcome it with God’s help.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
