Christine met Fred at a basketball game when she was only 17 years old.
Never did she dream that this man would later become her husband – and that she’d be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary!
This incredible couple gives all the glory to God – and you’re bound to be encouraged once you hear the amazing testimony and legacy they’ve left for their children.
So many couples say “I do” and think they mean it.
But then the storms of life happen and suddenly many couples find themselves unwilling to navigate life’s challenges together – so they get divorced.
Of course, this harms generations to come as children are left dealing with the emotional scars of their parent’s divorce.
Divorce isn’t just harmful for the husband and wife – it impacts children, family, friends, and hurts one’s Christian witness to the world.
But Christine and Fred lived a different life.
Firm in their faith in Christ, they wanted their children to grow up in the Lord and to witness the incredible testimony of a Christian couple weathering the storms of life together.
So through thick and thin, they stuck it out.
And now at ages 91 and 87, they can still joyfully enjoy one another’s company as they celebrate 70 years as a married couple!
Even sweeter, their children can recognize the commitment their parents modeled for them.
CBN News reported:
“The couple’s eldest son, Rodney Ivers, said his parents were an inspiration and encouraged all the family members to make the most of life.
“They set such a tremendous example for myself and siblings and lived their life to the fullest,” he said.”
Praise God for the life of this sweet couple living out their faith in such a way that their children can see the Gospel on display.
There’s no doubt this couple experienced hardship in their marriage, as all marriages have their ups and downs.
But their faith held true, reminding them they made a covenant not only with each other, but with God too.
Love is a choice.
A conscious decision to honor one’s commitment and serve each other well.
When asked what the “secret” was to their long marriage, Christine spoke of daily hugs and kisses, and Fred reiterated how important it is to trust the Lord and be involved in a church community.
CBN News continued:
“We grew our children up in church and we’ve learned to trust in the Lord,” said Fred.
Of course, as Christians, we know marriage is the closest earthly relationship we can have with one another that models the love Christ has for the Church, His bride.
When a couple stays together and honors God’s purpose for marriage, it shows a decaying world the beauty of Christ’s faithfulness to His people.
If you’re struggling in your marriage, don’t give up.
Remember the vows you made on your wedding day and know God will give you strength to stay together if you trust in Him.
Cheers to couples all around the world celebrating their anniversaries, and congratulations to Christine and Fred!
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
