The relentless blitz of political ads and talking pundits may have quieted down for now – but America is still uneasy.
Some may have hoped the “red wave” would save our nation – while others gloat over the victory of electing extreme liberals to Congress.
But although the midterm elections have come and gone – there’s one thing we know for sure.
God is still sovereign.
So many people fall prey to making politics an idol – thinking the fate of the whole world rests on what happens on election night.
Now don’t get me wrong – it is absolutely crucial we vote and elect leaders who best represent the Biblical values we hold dear – like the sanctity of life and fighting against the LGBT agenda.
But the Bible tells us over and over not to put our hope in men.
“Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.” – Psalm 146:3
And even though the midterm election results aren’t yet finalized – many people are absolutely devastated “their guy” lost – and they go to sleep full of worry that our nation will either rise or fall depending on which political party gets the majority.
Again, of course it’s vital we elect good leaders who will push through sane policies.
Electing as many solid Christian leaders to office should always be the goal every election cycle.
But regardless of who is in charge here on earth – God’s reign is supreme.
His ways cannot be thwarted by any election or politician – in fact, He already knows exactly who will win and who will lose.
And while many people are devastated that the “red wave’ didn’t “save our nation” – as Christians, we need to remember that our faith is in God – not any political party or leader.
The truth is Jesus saved our nation – in fact, He saved the entire WORLD when He died on the cross for our sins – paying the price we could never pay and reconciling us sinners to God.
We may “know” this Biblical truth – but it’s important to meditate on it if you find yourself losing perspective.
So what can you do if you’re disappointed with the election results?
To start, you can regain an eternal perspective – and remember the world will not rise nor fall based on one election.
The sun will go on rising and setting so long as God allows it.
Or if you feel there are “no good options” to vote for – perhaps you can consider running for office yourself.
It’s probably best to start at the local level and run for your school board or local legislature.
Much of the change in your community will take place at the local and state level – not based on who’s in Congress.
So have faith fellow believer and take heart – the election results may indicate the pulse of our nation – but whatever happens – Jesus is still King.
What are your thoughts on where our country is headed?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
