For more than six decades, Dr. Charles Stanley devoted his ministry to spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.
And after 90 years on this earth, he is now at home with Jesus after finishing his race well, and leaving an example for us to follow.
His life of obedience inspired millions and brought countless people to know Christ, and as we celebrate the life of Dr. Charles Stanley, here are a few things about him you may not know.
Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at the young age of 12 – and when he was just 14-years-old he knew he wanted to dedicate his life to preaching and sharing the Gospel and good news of Jesus Christ with others.
He never wavered, and throughout his life he was the Pastor at many churches throughout the nation.
However, many people around the world first came to hear Stanley preach through In Touch Ministries – which was streamed in more than 1 million households in the 1980’s.
His sermons through In Touch Ministries have now been heard in more than 127 languages around the world!
Stanley’s obituary stated he was the country’s “longest-serving pastor with a continuous weekly broadcast program”.
He was most known for his practical and Biblically-based teaching – always pointing people back to Jesus and stressing the importance of obeying God – whatever the cost.
His obituary eloquently states:
“Believing, as he often said, that people are to “obey God and leave all the consequences to Him,” Stanley focused his preaching on practical, Christ-centered, biblically based principles for everyday life.
Many of his messages incorporated the 30 Life Principles that guided his life and helped him grow in his knowledge, service, and love of God.
Other messages tackled such topics as parenting, finances, personal crises, emotions and relationships, prayer, and the character of God. Not having sought out the public spotlight, Stanley was a pastor who happened to be on TV, focused on teaching others how to seek and obey God through adversity and personal hardships.”
While so many preachers talk about “living one’s best life now” or the promises of “personal blessings” – Stanley focused heavily on overcoming adversity, and how tough times can help build our godly character if we turn to Jesus for help.
He lived his life well and honored God until the very end. His life of dedication and obedience to Christ is an inspiration, and his legacy will live on through his teachings.
We’ll end with some of Charles Stanley’s quotes and sayings throughout the years.
“Obey God and leave all the consequences to Him.”
“Our willingness to wait reveals the value we place on the object we’re waiting for.”
“Fight all your battles on your knees and you win every time.”
“His voice leads us not into timid discipleship but into bold witness.”
Well done, good and faithful servant, may you enjoy your new home in heaven with Jesus.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
