Some teachers go along with their local school district’s decision to enact pro-LGBT policies – but not Byron “Tanner” Cross.
Tanner Cross made national headlines when he stood up to the Loudoun County School Board in Virginia, refusing to use “transgender” pronouns and lie to his students about their true God-given gender.
As a result, he was suspended, and his case made it all the way to the Virginia Supreme Court – and here’s what they had to say.
To start, once Cross received notice he was getting suspended for staying true to his Christian values and refusing to bow to the LGBT agenda, he sued claiming his right to free speech had been violated.
Loudoun County Circuit Court Judge James E. Plowman heard the case and agreed with Cross – ruling that it was unconstitutional what Loudoun County school officials had done and said he must be reinstated.
That should have been the end of it.
But Loudoun County tried to make an example out of Cross and appealed the ruling to the Virginia Supreme Court, expecting the court to side with them.
To their dismay, nothing prepared them for what happened next.
The Washington Post reports:
“Cross was opposing a policy that might burden his freedoms of expression and religion by requiring him to speak and interact with students in a way that affirms gender transition,” the justices wrote.
“Although the [Loudoun school] Board may have considered Cross’ speech to be ‘a trifling and annoying instance of individual distasteful abuse of a privilege,’ we believe Cross has a strong claim to the view that his public dissent implicates ‘fundamental societal values’ deeply embedded in our Constitutional Republic.”
This is a major victory for religious liberty!
The lawsuit isn’t over just yet – but for now Cross is allowed to continue as a Physical Education teacher in Loudoun County.
So many teachers around the country are being forced to choose between their religious convictions or the latest “transgender” policies being enacted by their local school board.
Some teachers have had enough and decided to quit.
Others are staying the course and going along with the latest mandates.
But then there are those like Tanner Cross who are standing up for their religious convictions AND their students – knowing that it is harmful to lie to children about their gender all for the sake of “tolerance.”
Children who struggle with their gender identity need real help – mental counseling and guidance to find out what’s really going on – not grown adults placating their latest gender whims.
Of course, it doesn’t help that President Biden is pushing through LGBT mandates in schools – but it is encouraging to see Christian teachers using their power for good by holding true to their convictions and fighting back.
Cheers to Tanner Cross for standing up for students when it matters most!
Let’s pray more teachers around the country will be brave enough to speak out and fight back against the radical school boards who are harming our children with their pro-LGBT policies.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
