Christian churches have been under attack all across the country and forced to close their doors for the sake of “safety.”
And many preachers who chose to still meet and share the Gospel have faced steep fines – even arrest.
But thanks to a conservative majority on the Supreme Court, when local politicians tried to close the doors of one California church, they were told to stand down.
Despite the guaranteed freedom Americans have to practice their religion, the governor of California has tried to stop Christians from meeting and even singing!
While other states have limited indoor capacities, California has flat-out banned all forms of indoor worship…
… while allowing other establishments to remain open.
Thankfully, the majority of Supreme Court Justices seemed to agree and acknowledged the double standard when it came to California’s harsh restrictions on churches.
The Los Angeles Times reported:
“Since the arrival of COVID–19, California has openly imposed more stringent regulations on religious institutions than on many businesses.” wrote Justice Neil M. Gorsuch in one of three concurring opinions.
“California worries that worship brings people together for too much time. Yet, California does not limit its citizens to running in and out of other establishments; no one is barred from lingering in shopping malls, salons, or bus terminals.”
The Supreme Court agreed to lift the indoor ban on worship, but acknowledged that California may still impose a reduced limit of 25-percent capacity.
It’s a dark day in our nation when we have to fight to worship our Lord and Savior in a church and take the battle all the way to the Supreme Court!
Sadly, all across the country, churches have been feeling the brunt of unfair discrimination.
A church in Mississippi was even burned down for daring to reopen.
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves cried out to the nation, begging everyone to start praying without ceasing.
Christian Life Daily reported:
“I am heartbroken and furious,” said Governor Reeves in a public statement. “A church was just burned to the ground. They had been trying to open services.”
“What is this pandemic doing to us? We need prayer for this country.”
Reeves and police investigators revealed that the arsonists had spray painted graffiti on the front of the church building before igniting the explosion.
“There was graffiti on the lot which read ‘Bet you stay home now you hypocrites.’”
As Christians, while we don’t face near the persecution that our brothers and sisters face around the world, it’s clear America is moving in that direction.
The Constitution protects the right to worship and gather, yet politicians just showed us they’ll use any chance they get to shut down churches without question.
We must continue to pray for our leaders – that they will use their power for good and not harm.
And we must remember to pray for our nation and pray for the Spirit of God to unite us all together instead of driving us a part.
This pandemic hasn’t been easy for anyone.
And for many Christians, going to church is the only time they have to gather together as one body.
Our country is a Christian nation and Christians have the right to freely gather together and worship.
