It’s estimated that there are over 40.3 million victims of human trafficking worldwide.
Sadly, many adult websites use their resources to further exploit and abuse women, many of them underage.
While the end of human trafficking often seems far away, a major victory has occurred that’s brought one smut-site that much closer to shutting down for good.
To access adult sites, people have to enter a payment method often using their Mastercard or Visa.
But Mastercard and Visa surprised the world when they made the decision to no longer allow their companies to be used to aid in the sexual exploitation of young girls.
The New York Times reports:
“Both companies had started investigations this week into their financial ties with MindGeek, the parent company of Pornhub.
Mastercard said in a statement on Thursday that the investigation “confirmed violations of our standards prohibiting unlawful content on their site,” which prompted the company to terminate the acceptance of its cards on the site.
In a separate statement, Visa said, “We are instructing the financial institutions who serve MindGeek to suspend processing of payments through the Visa network,” pending the completion of its investigation.”
Of course, Pornhub claims they take down any videos that exploit underage girls, but this isn’t the truth.
One victim of child sexual abuse tells her story on how the adult website publicly allowed the world to see her abuse and refused to take it down.
Elizabeth Johnston reported:
“Assault survivor Rose Kalemba went up against the porn behemoth after discovering that it had allowed videos of her assault—which occurred when she was just 14 years old—to be uploaded and viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
Despite pleading with them for several months, it wasn’t until Kalemba set up a new email address and impersonated an attorney that Pornhub finally took down the videos of her attack.”
While Visa and Mastercard withdrawing their support for this site is a step in the right direction, there’s still an uphill battle we all face.
Many Christians silently struggle with pornography or sexual addiction and are too ashamed to seek help.
But healing begins in the light – and the only way to overcome darkness is to run towards the light.
Shame is real, but remember, Christ died for all of our sins – past, present, and future.
If you struggle with pornography or sexual addiction, the healing process begins with seeking help.
Take whatever measures you need such as adding an accountability buddy to monitor your internet browsing history and seeking a trusted prayer partner to pray with and for you.
The same goes for any victim of human trafficking or sexual abuse – there is hope and healing in Jesus Christ.
We were not meant to go through our struggles alone.
And there are also Christ-centered 12-step groups like Celebrate Recovery that operate with confidentiality and will help you walk through your journey of healing.

No one is too far gone to receive redemption from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
And don’t be surprised if one day, God uses your story to help set others free.
