Five young children have just had their lives turned upside down – losing both of their parents only four months apart.
The young children now live with their grandparents – immigrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo who are unemployed, ill, and speaking no English.
Wanting to help the orphaned children have a decent quality of life – one Iowa pastor rose to the occasion, living out God’s command to care for orphaned children – and wait until you hear how he helped.
The Kayira family moved from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Iowa – when tragedy struck their family.
First, the mother of the children died during childbirth – leaving all five children without a mother.
This was incredibly traumatic and painful – not only for her children, but also for the husband she left behind.
As if this tragedy wasn’t painful enough, the father died four months later in a car accident when his vehicle went into a creek during an ice storm.
Truly heartbreaking.
Now these precious children have to navigate a new reality – life without their parents.
Death is hard on all of us – but especially impacts children.
These five children have experienced more heartache in a few months than most people experience in a lifetime.
Grieving with them, one Iowa Pastor felt compelled to do something – so he started a GoFundMe page hoping to raise enough money to pay for funeral expenses – and to start a fund for the children to help pay for their expenses.
After all, even though their grandparents took them in – the elderly couple is not in the physical or financial position to care for five small children.
Pleading with people to help, the Iowa pastor wrote:
“It is with heavy hearts we are asking for your donations and prayers for the family of Bazirake Kayira.
Bazirake was one of the African refugee/immigrant community members living in Des Moines, he died Friday afternoon after crashing his vehicle into a creek during the ice storm. Four months ago Bazirake lost his wife during childbirth. He leaves behind five children.
We are raising funds to help assist with his funeral expenses and any extra funds will go into an account reserved for the children.
Keep these children in your prayers this is very sudden and extremely shocking for them to lose both parents like this in a short period of time.
Thank You and God bless you.”
As it turns out, his cry for help was met with an outpouring of support from people all around the country.
By the grace of God, his small effort produced much fruit – and to date over $330,000 has been raised to help these children.
Praise God!
Of course, all the money in the world won’t bring back their parents, but at least the children will have resources for their care.
Life is precious and short – hug your loved ones tight and make amends quickly – we are not guaranteed tomorrow.
May God comfort these precious children and surround them with a caring community to love and pour into them.
As the body of Christ, we are called to care for orphans. The faithfulness of this Iowa pastor shows what God can do with those who obey and are willing to serve Him. Powerful!
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
