It’s estimated that there are more than 560,000 homeless Americans – including many families and single moms.
And while the government either throws money at the problem hoping it will go away, or turns a blind eye, it’s clear the problem is not getting better.
Which is why God commands His church to care for “the least of these” – and one incredible organization is standing in the gap to help homeless moms find ultimate refuge in Jesus Christ.
Acres of Hope helps homeless moms break the cycle by addressing not just their physical needs, but the deeper struggles like spiritual, mental, and emotional health.
They currently have 12 units on their campus where moms and their children live and are looking to expand their operations to help even more families.
Jackie Turner, Ministry Coordinator for Acres of Hope, shares the heart behind their mission – and how it all points back to Jesus.
The Christian Post reported:
“Acres of Hope has a model that is working, and that is because the power of Jesus Christ is transforming the lives of mothers and their children from the inside out,” Turner said.
“They are learning the life they knew is not the life that God has wanted for them. They are rising up and becoming new creations.”
Amen! So many times we try and do things in our own strength – forgetting that it is only Jesus Who has the power to make all things new.
Or, many well-meaning organizations will provide temporary relief like a day or two of shelter for a family or a hot meal – but neglect the spiritual, mental, and emotional needs of a person.
But because Acres of Hope assists women in a holistic way, they are able to work through their personal struggles, talk with a licensed counselor, stay sober, and learn how to care for their children.
And – above all – the program points them to Jesus.
The Christian Post continued:
“God is the hope that resurrects lives,” Turner added. “I am looking at mothers who come in hopeless. Children who are in foster care, wanting to come home to mom. Some families come in afraid because they have left abuse.”
“In all of them, I watch them transform before our very eyes, and each day they show me the Gospel is alive and active. God is still hard at work making impossibilities become realities.”
What a blessing to see firsthand the countless lives being changed by the power of the Gospel!
While this broken world keeps many people trapped in bondage, Jesus Christ promises freedom – true freedom – for all who put their trust in Him.
We pray for Acres of Hope to have continued success in their mission of reaching moms and children with the Gospel of Jesus while also meeting their physical and emotional needs.
