Christmas seems to bring out the best in people – and news outlets often compete to get the latest “Christmas Miracle” headline about an anonymous donation to a charity or a miraculous life-saving rescue.
But as Christians, we know the greatest miracle of all took place many years ago – and changed the entire course of history.
Although many people celebrate the birth of baby Jesus each Christmas season – the true miracle of Christmas is meant to point us to something deeper– can you guess what it is?
While we should rejoice in the birth of Jesus this Christmas season – the true miracle of Christmas is remembering that God Himself was in the manger.
While many people focus on Jesus as baby – Christmas was meant to point to the reality that God was born into the world.
Not forsaking any of His power or glory, God came down to earth and dwelled with us, in the flesh, beginning with His humble birth in a manger.
And why is this important?
As Romans 3:23 reminds us “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
In our sinful nature, we are separated from God, and dead in our sin.
If we die in our sin, without the covering of Christ’s blood, we will be separated eternally from Him.
But God loved the world so much, He sent down His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to forever crush the head of the serpent and pay the price for the sins of the world – once and for all.
Fully God, and fully man, Jesus lived the perfect life we can never live, faithfully doing His father’s will until His very last breath.
He died on the cross for our sins – and rose from the grave – forever satisfying the wrath of God by covering our sins with His blood.
So, as we celebrate Christmas with our loved ones – may we keep our eyes focused on the true meaning of Christmas.
Instead of seeing Jesus as a “baby in a manger” …
… may we be in awe, reminded that Jesus was God, in a body of human flesh – born to bear the sins of the world.
And the greatest miracle of all is that God forgives the sins of those who repent, turn from their sinful nature, and put their faith in Jesus Christ.
This Christmas season take time to share this good news with those around you – whether they be coworkers or neighbors.
Here is a Christmas Wish for you: a season full of love and light as you gather with your loved ones to rejoice and celebrate the birth of our Living King, Jesus Christ.
The greatest miracle that ever was, is, and will be.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
