Radical Hindu groups are on a campaign to stop India’s tribal population from converting to Christianity.
To be a Christian in India is a death sentence, which is why Christians in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh recently fled for their lives.
But some Christian families decided to stay. As a result, they were brutally tortured, and you won’t believe what they were forced to do.
You see, tribal groups in India cannot fathom anyone would leave behind their tribal roots and become a Christian.
In fact, Hindu extremists refuse to allow the freedom of religion to prevail – which is why so many Christians in India have been tortured and harassed – even killed.
From preventing Christians from gaining employment to actually killing them, these extremists use any means necessary to send the message that to claim belief in Christ is a death sentence.
So recently, when a group of Christians who were in hiding were found out, they were given an ultimatum – reconvert or die.
If they didn’t “reconvert,” their entire livelihoods would be stripped away.
Morning Star News reported:
“The village gathering threatened to beat us to death if we did not attend the ceremony,” said Raidhar Nag, 21, one of the Christians who fled Chhingur village, Bastar District in Chhattisgarh state.
“They stopped us from fetching water from the village well, obtaining the free government ration or even working in our own fields.”
Once discovered, many Christians who refuse to give up their faith face death – which is why so many newly converted Christians are forced to flee their homes and go into hiding, which has resulted in an underground church scene.
But even those who worship in the daylight face persecution.
As Christian Life Daily previously reported, some Christians are even being harassed and accused of not being “Christian enough.”
For Christians in India, it appears they will be persecuted no matter what they do.
It’s no wonder Open Doors lists India as one of their top 10 most dangerous places in the world to be a Christian.
Here in America, we often take for granted the freedom to pray and worship our living God.
But persecuted Christians in places like India know that choosing to follow Christ will likely cost them everything – even their lives.
We must continue to pray for our Christian brothers and sisters around the world, that God will give them a peace that surpasses all understanding when the trials and tribulations come.
In addition, we must pray for the power of Jesus to soften those who are hostile to the Gospel.
There are still unreached people groups in India who have never heard the good news of the healing power of Jesus Christ.
May the Christians in India stand strong and continue to preach the Gospel – may it lead countless lives to follow Christ.
