Every Christmas, Operation Christmas Child provides churches all around the world with shoeboxes full of small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a way to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with children.
And each year, millions of children receive these gifted shoeboxes and are invited to learn more about Jesus as they hear the Good News.
Here in America, many schools delight in helping put together shoeboxes for these children – but if atheists in Texas get their way, Operation Christmas Child will be canceled for good.
Who would want to cancel Christmas for a child?
Those who hate Christ.
According to The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), an individual was “concerned” that local schools participate in this worldwide event.
Issuing a harrowing statement, FFRF went on to bash Samaritan’s Purse, the organization that runs Operation Christmas Child.
Claiming Samaritan’s Purse president Franklin Graham “harms” the LGBT community, and attacking his desire to help children learn about Jesus, FFRF said:
“The Freedom From Religion Foundation has asked a Texas school district not to collect money for a proselytizing Christian group that is headed by none other than Rev. Franklin Graham…
Samaritan’s Purse is a pervasively sectarian religious organization led by zealous evangelist Graham, FFRF has informed the school district. According to the website of Samaritan’s Purse, the organization does its “utmost to follow Christ’s command by going to the aid of the world’s poor, sick, and suffering…This, in turn, earns us a hearing for the Gospel, the Good News of eternal life through Jesus Christ.” The website also mentions that the purpose of the shoe boxes is to attract children in the developing world to convert to Christianity.
Franklin Graham, the one who runs Samaritan’s Purse, is an outspoken evangelist who has made several harmful comments over the years about the LGBTQ community and Covid vaccines.”
The FFRF has previously succeeded in forcing other schools around the country to cancel Operation Christmas Child – and if they have their way, Texas will be next.
All around the world, children are suffering – not only from a lack of physical needs, but from spiritual needs as well.
Instead of allowing a simple shoebox to brighten the lives of underprivileged children, FFRF hates Jesus so much, they’re willing to do everything they can to stop children from hearing His name.
But while they may have temporary wins – God’s purpose cannot be thwarted!
In fact, Faithwire reports that since Operation Christmas Child began in 1993, more than 188 million children in over 170 nations have received a shoebox and heard the gospel message!
Praise God!
It’s truly sad that those who hate Christ are denying schools and students the privilege to participate in such an important, collaborative effort.
In a country where we have so much, having U.S. schoolchildren put together shoeboxes for children who have nothing is a great way to teach our kids about the needs of others, and show them how to be the tangible hands and feet of Jesus
If you are looking for Christian ministries to support this Christmas season, please consider supporting Operation Christmas Child.
And please continue to pray this ministry will carry on – despite the atheists attempts to shut it down.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
