As the election draws nearer, the abortion debate is heating up more than ever.
But did you know that there’s a way to campaign for life before November arrives?
Read on to find out how to join this effort as it kicks off next week.
Pro-life leaders around the country—and around the world—are preparing for a 40-day campaign to protect babies from abortion.
40 Days for Life has been a twice-annual event since it began in 2007, and its organizers are excited for yet another impactful campaign.
Scheduled for September 23rd through November 1st this year, 40 Days for Life “aims to end abortion locally through prayer and fasting [and] community outreach.”
The campaign will also include “a peaceful all-day vigil in front of abortion businesses.”
Since its beginning in 2007, the 40 Days for Life campaign has helped save at least 17,226 babies from abortions!
The organizers have also witnessed the closure of 107 abortion facilities, and more than 200 abortion workers have quit their jobs due to the continuous activism of 40 Days for Life.
It’s never been a more exciting—or necessary—time to join the pro-life movement!
And you can do it on a local level this fall, reaching out to your community and finding the women, children, and families who need your help.
Shawn Carney, the founder of 40 Days for Life, is challenging you and your family to engage with the movement, because he and others are “beginning to see the end of abortion.”
Carney has urged Christians across America to fight for the unborn on every front, even when the battle seems overwhelming.
“We have to pray, daily, for an end to abortion,” Carney said. “What a tragedy to let a day go by where we don’t pray for an end to abortion.”
Carney and others 40 Days for Life staff offered a helpful list of ways to engage in the fight, citing prayer, fasting, vigils, and productive outreach as ways to advocate for life.
“We believe that when God’s people fast with a broken, repentant and contrite spirit, our heavenly Father will hear from heaven and heal our lives, our churches, our communities, our nation, and our world.”
40 Days for Life urged Christians to use vigils outside abortion facilities as “visible, public [centerpieces]” for the campaign.
“It is a peaceful and educational presence,” the organization wrote.
“Those who are called to stand witness during this 24-hour-a-day presence send a powerful message to the community about the tragic reality of abortion.”
“It also serves as a call to repentance for those who work at the abortion center and those who patronize the facility.”
Those who have participated in vigils in the past can testify to their effectiveness and emotional impact.
Jailyn Smith, a 40 Days for Life organizer in Utah, is excited about this fall’s vigil and the opportunity to engage with women in crisis.
“It’s important to be there [outside Planned Parenthood clinics] because it really can help the women realize that they don’t have to choose abortion,” Smith said.
“I think the [40 Days for Life] campaign is really important for exposure,” she continued.
“If people see our signs or see people standing out praying, they are going to be curious.”
“Sometimes that’s the sign a woman in an unplanned pregnancy is looking for. She’s looking for a reason not to make this decision.”
“I think that 40 Days for Life is a wonderful way to do that.”
In addition to praying, fasting, and holding round-the-clock vigils outside abortion facilities, those who participate in 40 Days for Life are encouraged to reach out to their communities with the pro-life message.
The organizers have suggested wearing wristbands or clothing that promotes 40 Days for Life, working with churches to promote the pro-life message, or writing letters to local newspapers.
It’s all part of the world’s largest grassroots movement to end abortion!
