If you ask the average American if they’ve ever practiced witchcraft – they’ll likely tell you no.
Yet the truth is, most Americans dabble in the occult everyday – whether visiting a psychic, turning to tarot cards to “determine their future,” reading their horoscope, and a host of other occult practices.
So just how dangerous are occult practices and why are people drawn to them?
To start – anytime a person attempts to entertain darkness – trouble awaits.
The enemy loves to make it seem that occult practices are “harmless” and “fun” …
… and before people realize what hit them – they’re hooked.
Jareb and Petra Nott coauthored a book speaking about deliverance, and the couple operates a deliverance ministry and explains the cultural shift towards the supernatural.
Petra points out that the interest in the “unknown” and the popularity of “good vs evil” has drawn people into the occult who don’t understand what they’re messing with.
LifeSite News reported.
“The fascination with evil in society right now — we have a huge interest in the supernatural and people don’t know where to turn to learn about that,” she said. “So, they’re turning to the wrong side.”
Petra said fear is another factor that leads people toward these practices.
“Witchcraft gives people the illusion of control in their life, and so there’s a huge pull to witchcraft because people feel like they can do the right things and cause their life to be better,” she said.
The problem is – if you try and tell your average person that tarot cards or horoscopes are part of the occult – they’ll likely laugh.
But anytime we turn to anything other than God for answers – we are messing with a supernatural world that is alive and active – and dangerous.
God is very clear in His Word why it’s crucial to flee from even a hint of divination.
“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:31
“For these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do this.” Deuteronomy 18:14
“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.” Colossians 2:8-10
“If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.” Leviticus 20:6
“If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.” 1 Timothy 4:1
You might think you’re in control – but when you mess with the occult – you are truly playing with evil.
Those who once walked in darkness continue to share their testimony about what it means to live in the light.
A dying world doesn’t need the “latest and greatest” supernatural trend guiding them on how to live – they need Jesus.
As Christians, it’s crucial no matter how tempting or “fun” it may seem to visit a fortune teller or have a tarot card reading – to flee – and never look back.
Have you ever messed with any occult practice?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
