“If it’s one life, one life out of a million, it’s worth saving.”
“… as much as the issue of abortion has historically divided this country, this state and even this body at times, to me there should be no debate on this issue.”
“This legislation is about protecting innocent life, a baby who is born alive.”
It can be shocking to learn, but it is true that there are survivors of abortion.
Children brought into the world as they are trying to be snuffed out.
I, too, was shocked to learn this, as I once thought that abortion came with no chance of survival.
However, especially since the gestational age for a baby being legally aborted is getting older and older, there are babies born alive after a botched abortion procedure.
Claire Culwell, an abortion survivor herself, put it like this, “What about me? What about my face or my life makes me less deserving of a chance at life than someone like you who was wanted?”
Who is anyone to decide for a baby whether they are worth living or dying?
Claire survived because her twin was aborted and her young mother did not know that she was still pregnant with a second baby.
She was blessed to have kept her life, but there are many others who do not get to have a life of their own.
Equally, or possibly more shocking, is the fact that when these babies are born alive, they are sometimes either left to die or terminated after birth by the abortionist.
That’s right, it sounds like murder … because it is.
Despite Planned Parenthood, as well as many government officials, denying these things happen, there have been too many scandals and undercover investigations involving botched abortions and murders of babies born alive to believe that they are a reliable source of information.
In fact, there are even several known cases of abortionists murdering babies born alive in their clinics. Kermit Gosnell in Pennsylvania, Douglas Karpen in Texas, and an unlicensed Belkis Gonzalez have all been accused of killing babies after they were born alive.
There was even a movie that came out just last year, called Gosnell, about Dr. Gosnell’s crimes.
Sickeningly, all were murdered deliberately and cruelly in various manners, including having their spinal cord “snipped.”
However, despite these sickening facts, there are measures being put into place in some states to save the lives of these babies.
Last month, Texas passed a bill that will save the lives of babies who are born alive during a botched abortion.
It is called a “Born Alive” bill.
Because it is suspected that many cases are not reported, there are really no reliable statistics as to how many babies are born alive and subsequently murdered after these procedures.
But while it is likely rare, the Texas legislators who supported the bill said that doctors must do everything they can to save the babies in these cases.
Basically, this bill gives the right for babies who are born alive after an abortion attempt to be entitled to the best of life-saving care after birth.
There are penalties to any doctors who do not comply with this bill, including 2-10 years in prison and up to a $100,000 fine.
This state bill compliments the federal Born Alive Infants Protection Act, which protects infants who have been born alive after an abortion attempt.
Although God has given us this great victory, and this kind of bill is being passed in several different parts of the country, there are many who criticize it.
The bill in Texas is criticized as being useless because Texas doesn’t allow abortions after 20 weeks. Many people are saying that there is no use in trying to save babies when they won’t be born alive at that age, but we see it as more protection for those who otherwise have none.
Additionally, Planned Parenthood and those who support them say that the decision to treat a baby who has been born alive during an abortion should be up to the mother and the abortionist.
This would mean that the baby would have no basic human rights after they are born and that their mother and abortionist would have the right to murder a live child.
Unfortunately, there are many who believe that this would be the right thing to do, that abortion is a choice that the mothers have a right to make, which would mean that the right to life of that aborted child would also belong to the mother.
However, as President George W. Bush was quoted as saying during his presidency, “a living human child born alive after an abortion or premature birth is entitled to the same rights, powers, and privileges as are granted by the laws of this state to any other child born alive after the normal gestation period.”
Being Christians, we know that all lives are in the hands of our Heavenly Father, and that only He knows when anyone should live or die.
We also know that all of these babies and their families should be prayed for, because so many are affected by abortion: not just the baby and the mother.
So please, don’t forget to pray for an end to abortion and for help to everyone who has been affected by this murderous procedure.
