During our darkest moments, it can seem like God is anywhere but near us.
The storms of life can humble even the proudest man and send a reminder to us all that we’re really just one moment away from pain or loss.
But in your deepest moments of despair, even when you feel like God has abandoned you, He wants you to remember one thing.
He will never leave you.
All throughout the Bible, God’s promises ring true of remaining with His people.
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
Even when His own people turned their back on God, God was still faithful.
When everything is going well in life, it can be hard to remember just how much we need God.
In our human arrogance, we sometimes think we’re in “control” of life and fool ourselves into believing “we’ve got this.”
But then tragedy hits.
Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a divorce, a sick child, a horrific car accident, or even a worldwide pandemic that shuts down churches for months…
… the reality of life reminds us just how fallible we are.
But it’s in those moments, at our weakest point, when the power of God shines the brightest.
Paul knew when he was persecuted and insulted, when he felt his weakest – that’s when he was the strongest – in Christ.
We aren’t promised happiness in this lifetime.
In fact, we are told that as followers of Christ we will suffer and be persecuted for doing what is right.
And by His grace, God promises to give us an unshakable peace as we walk through life’s storms.
Others will let us down.
We will be disappointed in this life.
And suffering and pain will come – but it’s not meaningless.
Often, God uses trials to draw us close to Him and renew our dependence on Him as the only source of our true peace.
So Christian, take heart.
Even when your faith feels weak, and you don’t even know what to pray, know that God is with you.
He will not leave or forsake you.
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26
Heavenly Father, this life can be hard, and often times it seems like you’ve abandoned us when we need you most. But we know Lord, you are always with us. God, help us to remember the promises of your Word are true. Give us strength to cry out to you in our deepest moments of despair, knowing that our true strength only comes from you alone. Help us to take refuge in your promise, that you will keep us from the hands of the enemy who is a liar and seeks to pull us away from you. We are thankful you keep us safe in your mighty hand. Please sustain us until you call us home. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
