As our nation continues to grieve the horrific shooting at Covenant School in Nashville that took the lives of 6 innocent people – more reports continue to surface on what happened that tragic day.
Witnesses now report when the deranged shooter opened fire on innocent schoolchildren – instead of hiding under a desk – head of school Katherine Koonce ran towards the shooter.
And thanks to her efforts in preparing her school for the worst – countless lives were saved.
Nashville City Councilman Russ Pulley told Fox Digital about Koonce’s heroic efforts on that fatal day – and credited her with protecting the children under her care.
Fox News reported:
“It is my understanding from a witness at the school that Katherine Koonce was on a Zoom call when she heard the first shot. She immediately ended the call, got up and headed straight for the shooter,” Pulley, a former FBI special agent, told Fox News Digital on Tuesday, noting that he did not have details about the confrontation that ensued after that.
“She did what principals and headmasters do; she protected her children,” Pulley said. “In addition, she prepared the school by seeking advanced-level active-shooter training, and from witnesses at the scene, this protocol – details of which I cannot provide – saved countless lives.”
Koonce died a hero.
While she should have never been forced into a situation like she was – she did everything she could to protect the children.
Other victims that day include 9-year-olds Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney along with school custodian Mike Hill, and substitute teacher Cynthia Peak.
Investigations are still ongoing on the motive behind why Audrey Hale decided to kill innocent lives and shoot up a school.
But what we do know is she is a biological female who “used male pronouns” and had an entire map of the school outlining exactly how she would plan her attack.
Authorities report she had more attacks planned.
Thankfully, police swiftly responded to the active shooting and took out Hale before she could kill more people.
Attacks like these bring out all kinds of emotions in people – as one thing we all share in common as humans is the grief at innocent lives being lost by a mentally unstable shooter.
Only God has the power to comfort those who are mourning during this unspeakable tragedy, and we know His heart grieves too.
Our hearts break with the families in Nashville, and we join with the rest of believers around the nation in keeping them in our prayers.
While we must continue to pray, we must not give into the heighted political climate of some politicians exploiting this tragedy to push their agenda.
Those who wish to harm innocent people will continue to do so – and no law will stop them – because bad guys don’t follow laws.
And as difficult as it is, we must follow Tennessee Governor Bill Lee’s reminder to forgive and pray for our enemies.
Hatred and bitterness only cause more pain.
May God have mercy on our nation as we grieve and mourn together – and may He give an extra dose of grace to all those impacted by this horrific tragedy.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
