A local school district decided to take students on a field trip to see a play and ensured every parent signed the permission slip.
But school officials failed to leave off important details about this trip – neglecting to alert parents that their children would be exposed to a “drag queen” as the star of the play.
Of course parents were outraged when they learned what their children had witnessed – and you won’t believe how the school district responded.
To start, it’s incredibly shady that school officials would deliberately withhold important details about a field trip…
… ESPECIALLY knowing children would be subjected to seeing a “drag queen.”
But their attempt to fool parents worked – because many parents allowed their children to attend the play – not knowing the “modern” version of Alice and Wonderland would feature a “drag queen.”
However, once the children came home and told their parents they’d been forced to wear a mask and watch a drag queen… parents began to express outrage over the lack of transparency between the school and the details provided to parents.
Beth Ann Rosica wrote a piece for Broad and Liberty and said:
“Downingtown Area School District’s permission slip (see below) for the field trip did not even include the name of the performance. While some districts did include the name of the show, they did not state that their children would see a drag queen performer. Nor did they state that every child would require a mask.
This is despite the fact that the districts are not currently requiring masks for children at school, and some children have mask exemptions that may or may not have been accommodated. Parents were not given enough information to make informed decisions about whether their child should attend.”
All school officials had to do was be transparent about their intent.
Not that they should even consider taking children to see a play with a “drag queen” …
… but had they been forthright, at least parents could’ve had enough information to opt their children out.
And yet, instead of admitting what they did was wrong and deceitful, the school district’s manager of communications dismissively stated parents should’ve looked up the information on their own.
Broad and Liberty continued:
“In advance of the performance, families were informed that students had the opportunity to attend a contemporary, pantomime version of Alice in Wonderland and given permission slips to return. The actors’ biographies and acting credentials were not included with this information but were accessible on the People’s Light and Theater website.”
The burden shouldn’t fall on parents, but school districts are continuing to use them as the scapegoats.
Instead of working with parents, schools around the country have pursued an adversarial relationship with them – even turning children against their own parents.
So, parents – be warned!
Our culture is gunning for the hearts and souls of our young ones. We must be fervent in prayer and ask God to protect them – and never assume any school event is “safe.”
What would you do if your children were taken to a show featuring a “drag queen” without your consent?
Do you agree the school district overstepped their authority?
