Critics worked overtime to stop the pro-life Unplanned movie from ever seeing the light of day.
First, the Motion Picture Association of America slapped an R rating on the film – hoping this rating would deter young teenagers from seeing the movie.
Then, Twitter suspended the movie’s account on opening weekend – and the account was only restored after pro-life users screenshotted the suspension notice and tagged the CEO of Twitter himself.
But despite multiple attempts to keep the truth of abortion a secret, Unplanned blew it out of the park.
And to the amazement of both pro-life conservatives and critics alike, Unplanned had a stunning movie theater debut – grossing $6.1 million on its opening weekend!
In addition to the financial success of the movie, another answer to prayer was revealed as many abortion clinic workers responded to the film in an incredible way.
Unplanned tells the story of Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood “Employee of the Year” who is now a pro-life activist.
Just five minutes into the movie and I was already in tears.
The movie is incredibly well done and gives an honest portrayal of the cruel workings of abortion clinics and the web of deception that runs all the way to the top.
But what makes this movie different is it shows the humanity of Abby Johnson while she is still working at Planned Parenthood. Abby truly thought she was “advocating on behalf of women,” which is a lie that many high-ups in the pro-abort industry use to manipulate young women to come work for them.
Unplanned shows Abby’s journey through her own abortions and bad relationships and despite the pain and darkness of one’s past, how God can redeem all things.
The film also highlights the power of prayer – the contrast of the violence taking place inside the abortion clinics versus the peaceful prayer warriors stationed outside is an incredibly tangible way to show the reality of the spiritual war we face every day.
Despite the R rating, people flocked to the movie theaters to see this pro-life flick in droves.
In fact, Unplanned is said to have ranked as the second-biggest start ever for a Pure Flix (faith-based distributor) film, according to Hollywood Reporter.
And while the movie does show graphic abortion scenes – that is the entire point – abortion is a violent act against both a woman and her baby.
While Unplanned does not sugarcoat the reality of abortion and shows all the inner workings of the clinic and the shady lies told to women, this too is important as women need to know the reality of abortion giants like Planned Parenthood.
Franklin Graham interviewed the actress Ashley Bratcher who played Abby Johnson in the film – and her story shows yet another sign of how God is able to redeem anything for His glory.
During the interview, Ashley Bratcher shared how her mother almost aborted her, and was laying on the abortion table but changed her mind at the last minute.
Christian Broadcast Network reported:
“‘To hear I was seconds away from not existing, and then also to know that here I am telling Abby’s Johnson’s story, it’s so clear to me and evident that God’s hand at work is present on this project,’ said Bratcher.”

Lives are being changed from this movie in a big way. In fact, Faithwire reports the director of Unplanned, Chuck Konzelman told Congress over 100 abortion workers have since quit their jobs at abortion clinics after seeing this film! It’s incredible to see how God can stir hearts and open their eyes to the truth.
Let’s continue to pray for all the abortion workers who are still deceived, that God will continue to put people into their lives that will help them know the truth. In addition, let’s pray for all the women who are pregnant and scared, and don’t know where to turn. May God put people in their lives who can show them alternatives to abortion.
Finally, let’s pray for healing for those who have had an abortion, may they find forgiveness through Jesus by confessing their sin and repenting, and after having been forgiven by Christ, may they boldly use their testimony to save other women from making the same mistake.
