Over the past few weeks, violent left-wing protests have destroyed businesses and lives.
While the rioters go free, two peaceful pro-life activists were just arrested in New York.
This story exposes an undeniable double standard and it needs to go viral.
Bevelyn Beatty and Edmee Chavannes, two pro-life activists, have stood up for life all throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
They’ve been peacefully protesting at abortion facilities throughout New York City, engaging with women at the clinics and counseling them on other options besides abortion.
One of the clinics they go to frequently is the Margaret Sanger Center Planned Parenthood on Bleecker Street in Manhattan.
The clinic is infamous for its record of botching abortions and injuring women.
So Beatty and Chavannes regularly go there to try to protect the women who might be seeking an abortion. They try to raise awareness of the medical—and moral—dangers of abortion.
And even though Planned Parenthood has attempted to disrupt their activism with barricades, the two women have remained steadfast.
So now, the abortion facility has turned to governmental overreach to oust Beatty and Chavannes.
Police recently arrived at the facility to arrest the two activists, charging them with a “failure to disperse.”
How ironic that these two peaceful protestors have been charged, while violent rioters nationwide have gone free, despite failing to disperse!
Beatty was quick to argue that this action was founded in “bias” and discrimination against pro-life activism.
“[Their bias] is blatant now,” she said grimly.
“We’ve been at that clinic for a while standing for children’s lives and bringing the gospel to these women because they need help just as well as the babies.”
Beatty noted that, in the absence of real charges against the two women, Planned Parenthood accused them of violating pandemic guidelines.
“We feel COVID has been used strategically to push a bias against [abortion] abolitionists,” she commented. “We’re pro-life but we’re abolitionists.”
Beatty defends her and Chavannes’ actions, noting they were not the ones violating social distancing guidelines.
“[Planned Parenthood is] not following social distancing, mind you—the person I’m standing with I actually live with so we don’t need to follow social distancing,” she said.
“But the police were saying we were violating social distancing and the only ones that are supposed to be there are the ones that work there.”
Beatty and Chavannes stood up for their right to free speech and peaceful protest, saying they were not on Planned Parenthood property and not infringing on the personal space of any women.
“We told them we’re not moving because it’s a public sidewalk and we have a right to be there,” Beatty argued. “They could be there because they work for Planned Parenthood, but we work for Jesus so as long as this is a public sidewalk, we can be here.”
Beatty’s arguments had no effect on the police, who demanded that she and Chavannes appear in court this fall.
It’s become clear over the last several months that pro-abortion activists are trying to use the pandemic to push abortion, and Beatty isn’t having any of it.
“We feel like it’s just another reason Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo can just push this agenda because the reality of this: How is abortion essential?”
“How are stores closing and we can’t have Red Lobster and we can’t go to church or fellowship but you can still go a kill a baby?”
Chavannes, agreed, saying, “Churches are closed in New York City but this place is open?”
The two activists expressed disbelief that they were arrested for standing up for the lives of babies and women, while looters and rioters are currently getting away with violence and theft across the country.
It seems that New York City has its priorities upside down!
This isn’t the only recent attempt to shut down the pro-life movement. Planned Parenthood has admitted to pressuring teenage girls into abortions, no matter the cost, and battle pro-life advocates at every turn.
But activists like Beatty and Chavannes have made real change happen by standing up for life, and recent estimates reveal that many abortion clinics are on the verge of closure.
Let’s pray for Beatty and Chavannes and others like them who have risked arrest and jail time for the sake of the unborn.
And let’s pray that God will move mightily to shut down abortion facilities around the country!
