“As President, protecting religious freedom is one of my highest priorities.” – President Donald Trump.
The September meeting on religious freedom at the United Nations was one for the history books.
In his keynote address, President Trump spoke these powerful words to the nations of the world, seeking to wake us all up to an alarming reality.
“I mean just think of this, 11 Christians a day for following the teaching of Christ,” said the President on Christians being killed for their faith worldwide. He was floored by recent statistics regarding Christian persecution.
President Trump’s address at the UN showed that he knows religious liberty does not only refer to Christianity, either.
The importance of faith freedom means looking at the broader issue, realizing that the worldwide importance of religious liberty covers many religions.
“83% of the world’s population lives in nations where religious freedom is threatened or banned,” his tweet read on September 24th.
And that number is shocking.
He also wanted everyone to know that, “America stands with believers in every country who ask only for the freedom to live according to the faith that is within their own hearts.”
The President of our country has decided: This must end.
“When I heard that number I said, ‘Please go back and check it because it can’t possibly be correct.’ And sadly it was 80%.”
“In 2016, an 85-year-old Catholic priest was viciously killed while celebrating mass in Normandy, France. In the past year, the United States endured horrifying anti-Semitic attacks against Jewish Americans at synagogues in Pennsylvania and California.”
“In March, Muslims praying with their families were sadistically murdered in New Zealand. On Easter Sunday this year, terrorists bombed Christian churches in Sri Lanka, killing hundreds of faithful worshippers. Who would believe this is even possible?”
CBN News reports: “In response to this global religious persecution, the President announced an additional $25 million in funding to protect religious sites and relics. There will also be a new business coalition focused on workers.”
President Trump broke ground with this very bold action. Such measures have never been taken by a President of our country before.
“This initiative will encourage the private sector to protect people of all faiths in the workplace.”
Frank Gaffney, CEO of Save the Persecuted Christians, is praising God for the reports of what was done and how the President is handling his recent meeting with the nations.
Gaffney said, “I think that the fact is that it’s not just words on the part of this administration. I believe that the President’s efforts on behalf of Pastor Brunson made clear that he used the instruments of American power.”
“The most important message, he very much did deliver on the fact by his presence at this event. He put the nations of the world on notice.”
Now it’s time for all of us to step up to the level our President has gone to.
One of President Trump’s key notes was to call for a repeal of laws that restrict religious freedom. At the same time, he is calling for increased prosecution laws when crime is done against a person for their faith.
In short, the action plan he presented at the meeting is this:
“To stop the crimes against people of faith, release prisoners of conscience, repeal laws restricting freedom of religion and belief, protect the vulnerable, the defenseless, and the oppressed, America stands with believers in every country who ask only for the freedom to live according to the faith that is within their own hearts.”
America was founded for the sake of religious freedom. Particularly, that Christians could freely worship and proclaim their religion, without government oppression.
It is incredible to know we are currently under a President who is taking steps towards restoring what was lost.
Please pray that God opens the minds and hearts of the hearers. This message was record-setting and powerful.
If what the President has suggested comes to fruition, perhaps even making its way around the world… It would be a different world indeed!
