California bureaucrats did everything they could to shut down churches in California – but they failed big time.
In fact, they spent more than a year harassing pastors, imposing hefty fines, and even trying to stop Christians from meeting in their own homes.
But on this beautiful day of justice, the state of California will now be forced to pay more than $2 million dollars in legal fees for what they’ve done – and just wait until you hear the details.
According to CBN News, the Thomas More Society (which represented a Catholic priest and a United Pentecostal church) will receive over $2 million dollars in legal fees due to California mandates discriminating against these churches during COVID-19.
Praise God!
Of course, this is already in addition to the United States Supreme Court ruling that California must lift their indoor ban on churches.
The Supreme Court also pointed out the hypocrisy on how California opened up other businesses in the state while demanding churches stay closed.
It was abundantly clear California was attacking churches and using COVID-19 as a loophole to keep them closed.
But thankfully our Supreme Court has a conservative majority and could see through the double-mindedness of California politicians.
And now, justice has been served.
COVID-19 caused the world to practically stand still – especially those who wished to gather together and worship the Lord.
So many Christians were forced to stop meeting during the pandemic, further leading to isolation and depression.
At a time when Christians needed fellowship and connection with other Christians more than ever – they were left in the dark.
And it wasn’t just public places of worship they tried to close…
… California even targeted home Bible studies and tried to restrict the number of people that were able to gather in their private homes!
But thankfully, many law firms took up the cases of these churches, determined to defend the 1st Amendment right to gather.
Earlier this year, The Liberty Counsel took on a case of Harvest Rock Church and Harvest International Ministry and California was forced to pay an additional $1.3 million dollars to reimburse The Liberty Counsel in legal fees and costs.
CBN News reported:
“Liberty Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said holding California accountable will have a big impact on churches that have been experiencing similar restrictions and fines across California and other states.
‘The dominoes are falling, and churches are being freed from dictatorial and unconstitutional restrictions. The Supreme Court has intervened multiple times to provide relief. As a result, there will be more restrictions lifted and charges dropped for churches in the near future,’ Staver said.”
One can only hope that should another pandemic ever strike, these precedents will discourage states from ever trying to shut down churches again.
Christians have the right to gather and worship our living Savior, and no politician or leftist court should have the power to stop them.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
