When you become a parent, your every prayer seems to revolve around your children in some shape or form.
And when you’re the parent of a child suffering from a medical condition, your faith goes into overdrive and you pray like never before.
When the Millers learned their daughter had a deadly kidney condition, their prayer was simple – their daughter needed a matching donor.
And God answered their prayer in a way that will have you praising His faithfulness!
Jennie Miller was overjoyed when her precious daughter, Alana, was born.
But very soon after, Alana’s symptoms began.
The symptoms were strange and for years Alana suffered while doctors didn’t have any good answers or any solid direction.
It wasn’t until Alana was 6 that they got an answer.
Alana recalls before that time how sadness was an early and prominent emotion she felt deeply.
Alana reports that she felt “sad because I didn’t know what was going on,” and her parents did all they could to keep her positive even though they were also experiencing deep concern.
Doctors finally revealed that Alana had a kidney disease.
While this news produced a new fear, it also produced a new hope. They finally had a direction, an answer, and that was huge for the Millers.
Because the disease had been active for so long, it didn’t take long for doctors to determine that Alana actually needed a new kidney.
When you’re in this type of position with your child, all you can really do is “just pray that the perfect donor will be found,” as Jennie Miller explained in her interview with WRTV.
“I had put out a prayer request to the church that if anyone would have any interest to pray about it if it’s on their heart.”
The faith of this mother to state her need with such trust in God as to leave the request’s results to His Spirit moving just the right person… It’s amazing. It’s an undeniable faith, creating an anchor within this mother’s spirit.
Jennie fully believed that God, who made her daughter wonderfully within her womb (Psalm 149:14), would also be the best and only provider through this massive trial.
Jennie trusted God and waited on Him.
And God blessed the sweet fragrance of her offering of obedience.
It wasn’t long after the Millers presented this request to the church that Pastor Chris McLaughlin responded.
Stones Crossing Church of Illinois had become precious to the Millers. God led them there, as Pastor McLaughlin said.
Pastor McLaughlin was overwhelmed with the reality and closeness of God’s love for His children when he received the doctor’s report after they tested his kidney – it was a perfect match!
The part about this news that is so faith inspiring is that a matching kidney is really important for any transplant, but a thousand times more so for a child.
However, when the Miller’s received the initial news of their daughters need, it came with a caveat.
Her kidney had a very strange design not often seen.
Yet when Dr. William Goggins of IU Health began the transplant surgery from Pastor McLaughlin, he noted, “His blood vessels came out in an abnormal fashion. They don’t come out in the center of the kidney. They come out at the top of the kidney … When you’re dealing with small kids, where the blood vessels go and how they attach are the most important thing.”
But then he realized… This was the exact shape and design of Alana’s as well!
The miracle was so undeniable that the surgeon said, “Somebody upstairs really wants her to get this kidney, because it was so perfectly set up for her.”
Pastor McLaughlin was in awe, stating: “I really see God in the midst of this. That this is something that God had set up from the very beginning… When Dr. Goggins told me, his exact words were, ‘It’s as if your kidney was meant for her’.”
Alana has had quite the experience of how God provides for His children and loves us uniquely.
“I feel way better, I have a ton more energy. I’m just so grateful. Now I can do a bunch of things like other kids can do.”
Organ donation is a huge deal for people like Alana. It is literally a life or death situation.
Only God who made us knows exactly what we need and the perfect person who might be able to help us if we are failing.
If you know someone who needs a donor, pray with every ounce of your being. Be a support to that person and even use your own social media to help them seek the right fit if you feel led by God to do so.
Furthermore, if you feel led to support someone as a donor, get tested.
You never know how your unique self could be the exact perfect match for God’s healing in another person’s story!
