Jesus tells us many times in His Word that we should be prepared to suffer and even die for our faith.
And one woman who left her Muslim background to pursue Jesus learned just how true His words actually are.
This brave woman was a new believer and wanted to learn more about Jesus, so she hid two Bibles in her suitcase. But when her Muslim husband found them, he reacted in the most horrific way.
Nabirye, a 38-year-old mother of three, had recently accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior but was forced to keep her faith a secret.
Instead of being able to share her faith and have fellowship with other believers, Nabirye feared for her life because of her Muslim background.
But she still wanted to learn more about Jesus and had been given two Bibles that she would read in secret to deepen her faith.
But then her Muslim husband found them.
And he was outraged that his wife had chosen to follow Christ – and sought to take her life.
The Morning Star reports:
“My husband began reading verses in the Koran that allowed men to beat their wives if they disobey them, and after that he started beating me with slaps and sticks,” she said. “As if this was not enough, he forced me to take Dithane M-45,” a toxic pesticide.
She tried not to swallow the pesticide he had forced into her mouth but ingested some while he was trying to strangle her and hitting her leg with sticks, she said. He also injured her chest, neck and thigh, Nabirye said.”
After he had finished torturing her, he took her beaten and unconscious body to the banana plant and left her to die.
But God had other plans.
By His grace, Nabirye’s neighbors were able to find her – and although she woke up covered in blood and vomit, she was alive!
Thankfully, Nabirye is currently living with a Christian family in an undisclosed location.
Praise God for saving the life of this brave young woman!
Her faith was so important to her that she was prepared to die before she dared to denounce Christ.
So many of us Christians in America take for granted the freedom to worship Jesus freely. May this story be a reminder to us all that our brothers and sisters around the world are being persecuted for their faith.
Let’s take a moment and say a prayer for Nabirye. May the Lord continue to fill her with a peace that surpasses all understanding.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for saving revealing yourself to Nabirye and adopting her into your family. Thank you, Lord, for saving her life – though the enemy sought to do her harm. May her faithfulness and testimony lead others in her family to follow you. Please protect her and her children against further attacks. May she come to know you in an even deeper way. Thank you for your grace and mercy. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus – Amen.
