“I believe the Lord gave me a touch when they fed me rat poisoning in Rochester, New York. And they had to cut out half of my vocal chords.”
“And they said I’d never talk again. But the man upstairs said …” Duranice Pace told Steve Harvey on his show as she shook her head, “No!”
But in a way that only God can make happen, her appearance on Steve Harvey’s show turned out not to be about her at all.
“God really wants to help us, but he requires that we have a relationship with him. If you’re out here trying to make it without God, you are making life harder than it needs to be. There is a higher power, there is a God. It’s time to get in touch with God.”
Above is a tweet written by comedian Steve Harvey at the end of last May.
Steve is no stranger to the Lord, but earlier this year, the Lord spoke to him in a most unexpected way – prompting him to share this tweet, and God, with the world.
Steve Harvey does not apologize for his faith, which was made strong through the devotion of his late mother. He will tell everyone that he is a saved follower of Jesus Christ.
But when he brought gospel singer Duranice Pace onto his variety show this year, he was not expecting to hear God speak to him through this charismatic woman.
Pace, part of the gospel group The Anointed Pace Sisters, shared her story on Steve’s show about her rough childhood. She is a true overcomer of adversity.
At one point in her life, she was fed rat poison and doctors had to remove half of her vocal cords.
“I believe the Lord gave me a touch when they fed me rat poison in Rochester, New York, and they had to cut out half of my vocal cords. And they said I would never talk again, but the man upstairs said, ‘You gonna sing again.”
And sing she did. She and her eight sisters formed The Anointed Pace Sisters in 1992, which remains a successful gospel group today.
Then Duranice was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and told she only had three years to live. But miraculously, by God’s grace, she is still here eleven years later!
Pace told Steve Harvey that God allowed her to live so that she could meet him and come on his show.
“I didn’t know if I was going to be alive but God done kept me alive to see you, sir.”
And then, in front of a live audience, she proceeded to prophesize over Harvey.
She sang out with loud passion, “This is Steve Harvey, he’s a good man. He loves the Lord and he’ll give you a helping hand. God’s going to bless Steve Harvey. Keep on, keep on, you helped me to live, sir, keep on…you special.”
Steve Harvey was brought to tears. He told her that he hoped his mother was watching because she would be proud to know how he had turned out in his relationship with the Lord.
“The only reason I straightened up and started doing right was ‘cause I just wanna see her. Other than that, I’d still be going to hell like I was.”
He told Duranice Pace that her appearance on his show had touched him. “You think I’m helping you, but you really helping me. I thank you because this was for me,” Steve told her.
And he really was touched, enough to tell the world that, “It’s time to get in touch with God.”
But this is not the first time Steve has shared his faith with an audience.
Steve is well known for bringing Jesus into his comedy routines. He has shared Jesus and His saving Grace with many people over the years.
With so many bad influences in the entertainment industry, what a breath of fresh air it is to find someone like Steve who wants to be a good influence and spread the Good News of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
And he is not the only one. Lately, there have been several big names in the entertainment industry proclaiming God’s presence in this world and encouraging others to listen to what He has to say.
It feels like there are finally some voices willing to go against the Hollywood grain and actually stand up for Jesus. And now, how wonderful it is to see Jesus proclaimed on a live TV show!
It just goes to show that, even when everything seems so corrupted and wrong, God is still in the midst of all things, showing his Grace, Love and Power.
Join us in praying that more and more will proclaim Jesus in front of the world and that God’s presence only grows stronger and stronger.
Let us pray that it becomes a common and joyous thing for Him to be spoken of on the programs we watch, and that we no longer have to avoid shows because of their sinful nature and corruption.
