God is sovereign and satan is not – but that doesn’t mean Satan doesn’t torment believers.
While his leash is short – and his destruction is certain – Satan uses his limited time hoping to bring destruction and pain to God’s people.
Even the strongest Christians have found themselves ensnared by his web of lies – so before you step into his next trap – here’s what to look for.
He Will Accuse You
While the Holy Spirit will convict you of our sin – satan condemns you.
The moment you became a Christian and turned your life over to Jesus – your sins were forgiven and nailed to the cross.
Even though you’ve repented and turned from your worldly ways – satan will make it seem as if you’re guilty – always reminding you of the person you were – even causing you to doubt your salvation.
But take heart – being a Christian isn’t about how holy and perfect you are – it’s about how holy and perfect Jesus is.
He Will Lie to You
Remember, satan is a deceiver – the true “father of lies”.
He’s blinded the eyes of unbelievers – and tries to get followers of Christ to believe his lies too.
John’s words to those trapped in darkness remind us about satan’s character – and reiterate there truly is no truth in him.
“You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44
He seeks to kill and destroy – hoping to convince believers that God isn’t really good or powerful.
Perhaps a crisis happens in your life – or you’re going through a rough season.
Satan will strike you where you’re vulnerable – and fill your mind with lies if you let him.
He Will Tempt You
Some people live in sin, simply blurting out “but the devil made me do it”!
Of course, this isn’t always the case; often people willfully choose to sin.
The Bible warns us about taking every thought captive.
The most destructive sins don’t happen overnight – they begin with a decision.
Every choice leads to another choice – and could lead to a searing of one’s conscience.
Satan persuades you that worldly pleasures will bring “total happiness” – but it’s a trap.
Don’t take the bait.
Resist the devil, and he will flee.
God Is Greater
The best way to withstand the enemy’s attacks is to be in God’s word – mediating on his precepts and memorizing Scripture.
If a thought comes into your mind that is not from God – combat it with the truth of God’s word.
If you feel swayed by an earthly temptation – remember God is faithful, and has not left us alone.
Stand strong in your faith – and don’t believe the father of lies.
God has already won the battle – but until He comes back – prepare your body, mind, and heart to fight the spiritual battle – and know you aren’t alone.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
