One family’s living nightmare is finally coming to an end – but not without a brutal fight.
A few years back, 14-year-old Sadaf was abducted from her home – her parents had no idea what happened until the police sent them a message claiming she had married an older man and converted to Islam.
Sadaf’s parents knew their Christian daughter was being held against her will – and here is the harrowing ordeal they went through to get her back.
To start – the case should have been open-and-shut.
Clearly no grown man has the right to kidnap and marry a child – simply claiming she “converted to Islam” to justify his actions.
Sadaf’s parents thought this – so they promptly hired a lawyer and went to court to save their baby girl.
But to their horror – the court sided with the abductor!
Thanks be to God, a Christian human rights organization called Christian Solidarity International (CSI), sent Joel Veldkamp, an international communications officer for (CSI), to help. Through God’s grace and Joel’s hard work, he helped get Sadaf back to her parents, even after the court’s bogus ruling.
Faithwire reported:
“The kidnapper … her so-called husband, brought in a forged birth certificate that said that she was 18 years old, which means that she’s free to make her own decisions,” Veldkamp said.
“So, the judge just didn’t allow her to speak, didn’t ask her questions, just looked at the forged birth certificate and said, ‘Okay, yeah, this is good.’”
In court, Sadaf was fully covered in a veil – so no one was able to see her facial reactions or expressions.
But her parents knew something was wrong – and they refused to give up the fight to rescue their precious daughter.
By God’s grace, CSI was able to get the case heard by an appeals court – who ruled the marriage and conversion ‘illegitimate.’
Sadaf was reunited with her family – but now suffers extreme emotional trauma and PTSD from all she has been through.
Faithwire continued:
“She was not old enough to make this decision for herself and thankfully, in this one case, justice was given,” Veldkamp said. “She was able to return home to her family, and once she got home, she was able to actually speak for the first time and talk about what she had been through.
Veldkamp described the teen’s ordeal as “unbelievably horrible” — and the details corroborate that descriptor.
“It’s very clear that she was used, essentially, as a sex slave and a maid by this family,” he said. “And she told us that she had five … forced abortions during her 2 1/2 years of captivity.”
Unconscionable.
This Christian teenage girl was ripped from her home and, for 2.5 years, was abused and used as a slave.
While she has a long road to recovery – we know our God can heal her Spirit and remind her of who she is – and that her worth and value come from Him.
Please continue to pray for Sadaf as she continues along her healing journey.
May God continue to heal and restore her.
And let us also remember all the other women and girls who are still trapped in unspeakable situations.
May God put people into their paths to fight on their behalf, and set them free.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
