Last year, celebrity Alex Trebek announced that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
The host of Jeopardy admitted that the prognosis was grim.
But when he asked his fans across the nation for their prayers, a miracle occurred!
And now Trebek is back with amazing news — and a statement about the power of God and prayer.
When Trebek first announced he had Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, he reached out to his many fans for prayers and support.
When he reported back on the undoubtedly miraculous results of his cancer treatment, he fervently thanked his fans for their prayers, sharing that some of the tumors had already shrunk by more than 50 percent.
Trebek’s doctors were amazed by the rapid healing.
“It’s kind of mind-boggling,” he shared. “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory.”
“I’ve got a couple million people out there who have expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy directed towards me and their prayers,” Trebek continued. “I told the doctors, this has to be more than just the chemo, and they agreed.”
Some news outlets censored the word “prayers” when they reported on the story. This was a blatant attempt to hide Trebek’s faith from the public eye.
However, Trebek just shared a one-year update video in which he could clearly be heard giving glory to God for his survival. He didn’t give news outlets the opportunity to change or censor his words this time!
“The one-year survival rate for Stage 4 pancreatic cancer patients is 18 percent. I’m very happy to report I have just reached that marker,” Trebek began.
Trebek has fought hard to stay alive, undergoing tough chemo treatments and holding on to hope through the good and bad days alike.
“Now I’d be lying if I said the journey had been an easy one,” he admitted. “There were some good days, but a lot of not-so-good days.”
The life-saving treatments had been painful and discouraging at times, the Jeopardy host shared.
“I joked with friends that the cancer won’t kill me; the chemo treatments will,” he laughed.
In a moment of candor, Trebek even admitted that he had considered giving up on treatment.
“There were moments of great pain, days when certain bodily functions no longer functioned, and sudden, massive attacks of great depression that made me wonder if it really was worth fighting on.”
But the support from his loved ones, fans, and, of course, God kept him going. Trebek realized that he wanted to set a good example for other cancer patients and continue inspiring them to hope, even through the pain of treatment and recovery.
“I brushed [the thought of giving up] aside quickly,” said Trebek, “because that would have been a massive betrayal—a betrayal of my wife and soulmate, Jean, who has given her all to help me survive.”
“It would have been a betrayal of other cancer patients who have looked to me as an inspiration and a cheerleader of sorts, of the value of living and hope,” he continued.
“And it would certainly have been a betrayal of my faith in God and the millions of prayers that have been said on my behalf.”
Trebek acknowledged the importance of prayer and faith in his miraculous survival, saying that he owes it to God to keep trusting Him and fighting on.
Though the future is uncertain, Trebek said he is looking forward to living his life as long as possible.
Although the two-year survival rate for Stage 4 pancreatic cancer patients is only 7 percent, Trebek’s oncologist is confident that the game show host will live another year. The two look forward to celebrating Trebek’s second anniversary of survival next spring.
Trebek closed his update video by urging his viewers to come together and encourage each other through tough times.
“You know something? If I…if we—because so many of us are involved in this same situation—if we take it just one day at a time, with a positive attitude, anything is possible,” Trebek said.
He also promised to “keep [us] posted” on his continuing cancer journey.
Keep Alex Trebek in your prayers as he seeks to glorify God through what remains of his life! And praise God that His Name was not left out of the news this time.
