While the Bible commands us to take every thought captive – many of us are guilty with letting our thoughts run wild.
Whether it’s being anxious and worrying about the future or dwelling on our anger and resentment towards another person – our thought life can truly lead us down a path of destruction without us even realizing it.
So if you’re struggling right now and feel “stuck” – take a moment to reflect on what it is you’ve been thinking about – and ask yourself if you’re falling for the biggest lie of all time.
You see, the enemy loves to get Christians to doubt the goodness of God especially during difficult seasons.
Just as Eve questioned in the garden, “Did God really say that?” …
… we too are guilty of questioning or doubting God.
And sometimes our thoughts lead us down a dark path – and we start to believe the worst and lose hope.
Which is why we must take every thought captive and test it against the Word of God.
Truth isn’t relative – and it doesn’t change.
Even if you “think” it’s true – even if you “feel” like it’s true – if it goes against the Bible or contradicts what the Scriptures say – it is not true.
A person may “think” God has deserted them or abandoned them – but the Bible says: “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
Or perhaps a person has let their thoughts wander too far, causing them to become anxious about what will happen in the future.
Instead of feeding and entertaining those thoughts and letting them ruminate in your mind – immediately go to Scripture.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
Notice the word – anything.
The Bible doesn’t tell us to be anxious about “some things” or “big things” – it says to not be anxious about anything.
Of course, as humans this is easier said than done.
But this is why it’s so important to have daily devotionals and spend time meditating on the Word of God.
If you keep Scripture in your mind and heart, you can immediately correct any thought that isn’t true.
Unchecked thoughts that are lies from the enemy keep people stuck in bondage – as we are all prone to act on what we believe.
But by taking EVERY thought captive – we can make sure that what is actually true is what we believe.
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:32
Jesus is truth – and there is freedom in Him.
He died on the cross to pay for the sins of the world and to set the captives free.
No longer do you have to be a slave to your own thoughts.
So the next time you find yourself thinking about something that’s causing you to worry and have a restless heart – stop – and open up the Word of God for the answer.
God has been faithful through all the generations – and He has promised us peace despite our circumstances when we turn to Him.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
