The situation in Ukraine has left many feeling helpless and thinking the crisis is “too big” for everyday people to have an impact.
But one local church shut down that narrative in a massive way – and raised over $145,000 for Ukrainian refugees during a bake sale.
And once you hear about the incredible miracle God did through a few faithful believers, you’re bound to be inspired.
Who doesn’t love a good bake sale?
Moms whipping up their favorite brownies passed down from generation to generation, and eager participants who are more than happy to fork over a couple of bucks for a sweet treat.
So when one church wanted to help those in Ukraine by hosting a bake sale – never in their wildest dreams did they envision they could raise a whopping $145,000 for the cause!
Incredible!
Wondering how they did it?
This particular church in Kentucky has many Ukrainian members.
Horrified by what is happening in their precious country, they wanted to do something to help.
Victor Selepina helped organize the bake sale – and was blown away by how much support the local community gave to help make the event a huge success.
The Christian Post reported:
“Selepina said that he was surprised by the amount raised, saying it “wasn’t planned” but that “we never anticipated to have so many people come out and to raise that amount of money.”
“Our community has been absolutely wonderful,” he said, “and we’ve been very, very, very blessed with a community that we live in, and also the opportunities that this country has given us at one point that we can now organize such events.”
Selepina commented that everyone came together to bake homemade goods – from young teens to 90-year-old grandmothers.
How beautiful.
It’s so important for Christians to stand in solidarity with those who are struggling or living in times of turmoil by providing tangible and spiritual support.
If you think the problem in Ukraine is too big for you to have an impact, hopefully this story will serve as encouragement!
Many hands make light work. If everyone bands together – so much good can be done to meet the concrete needs of those in Ukraine.
And of course, most importantly, we must continue to pray God’s name will be made known during this crisis – that so many people will seek Him that Bibles will keep flying off the shelves!
If you’re wondering how you can help with the situation in Ukraine, in addition to praying, consider asking your local church to host a fundraiser or gathering.
Or, consider hosting your own event with your personal network.
God hears the cries of His people, and during this tumultuous time we must continue to intercede on their behalf – and provide practical support when able.
“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’” – Matthew 25:40
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
