Vice President Pence recently gave a powerful commencement speech to the graduating class at Liberty University.
But his message was one all Christians need to hear.
That’s why if you haven’t heard it yet, you need to. Here’s the video:
“Throughout most of American history, it’s been pretty easy to call yourself Christian. It didn’t even occur to people that you might be shunned or ridiculed for defending the teachings of the Bible.”
“Freedom of religion is enshrined in our First Amendment and in the hearts of every American. And these attacks on Christian education are un-American.”
“We faced harsh attacks by the media and the secular left. The truth is we live in a time when the freedom of religion is under assault.”
If you have been paying any attention to what is happening here in the US, you might have noticed that Christians have come under a lot of criticism.
From the fact that we support the right to life to being able to choose to follow our moral teachings, Christians have been painted as hateful bigots in the media.
Of course, we know that “hateful” is the last thing we as Christians are called to be, but many are starting to view us as the “bad guys”. The moral stance that we take just doesn’t seem to fit in with the way people want to live anymore.
It is as if people want to do whatever their hearts desire, no matter how evil that desire may be, and we Christians seem to be standing in the way of that.
Christianity comes with a strong sense of right and wrong, and the freedoms of this country were written in the Constitution to protect our right to follow our sense of right and wrong.
However, people now have been able to take those freedoms and turn them against us. Now, even in this country founded on Christian principles, our freedom to follow our religion and our way of life is being threatened.
One of the areas in which we are being threatened is education. Christian education has been coming under a lot of attack lately. Many believe that we are indoctrinating our children with hate and judgment, when in fact, we are teaching them how to Love and how to live a moral lifestyle.
This can be hard to do in a society where morality is looked down upon and hated.
This was the message that Vice President Mike Pence had to give during his recent commencement speech at Liberty University, a Christian university.
He made sure to defend our religious liberties and warn the students of the battle they would be facing in the days and years ahead.
He said what many of us feel. Many of us remember when most of the people we knew were Christians and nobody would have thought twice about their neighbor talking about church or the Bible. Now, we are ridiculed for this on a regular basis.
And all of this for tolerance. Because we are told that we must tolerate everything and agree with everything in order to be an acceptable member of society.
“Some of the loudest voices for tolerance today have little tolerance for traditional Christian beliefs,” said Pence in his commencement speech. “So as you go about your daily life, just be ready. Because you’re going to be asked not to just tolerate things that violate your faith; you’re going to be asked to endorse them. You’re going to be asked to bow down to the idols of the popular culture.”
And this rings true. Haven’t we already seen this in cases like the Masterpiece Cakeshop, among others? If we are not following what is popular, then we are intolerable and full of hate. Or so that is what we are told.
Not to mention the ridicule that VP Pence’s family has endured. Not only has he himself been looked down upon for his own Christian beliefs, but his wife has as well.
This year, Karen Pence took a job as an art teacher at a private Christian school. She was berated by the LGBT community because the school teaches from the Bible regarding marriage and sexual immorality.
That is not popular, so it is not tolerated.
But we must realize that we have a higher purpose than to just be popular and go along with whatever other people say. If we do not stick with and follow the teachings that we have learned from the Bible, then we are like sheep being led to the slaughter!
And we are being led in droves right now. We are living in a very precarious and dangerous time, particularly for Christians.
Jesus told us that we would face trials in His name. And He said, “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.”
So we must, “press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
For it is a high calling, and a most important one. Jesus said that following Him would not be easy, and many of us are starting to realize this in our current society.
But we must keep pressing forward and standing with our convictions, which come straight from the Bible, the Holy Word of God our Father.
It is our guidebook for life. We know whom we serve and everything else in our lives must fall into place after Him. We must stand strong in our Faith and do what we know to be right.
It is a blessing that we have people in our government who still agree with the Bible and believe it to be the Word of God, but we also know that might not always be the case.
So we must work hard to ensure that our children are taught from the Bible and know how to live, so that they can continue the fight once we are gone. Until Jesus comes.
Please, don’t forget to pray for an awakening in our country, and in our world. For people everywhere to know who Christ is and to Love and follow Him. And pray that those who do not know Him can be turned to His light, and that they see His light through us, His followers.
And be sure to watch his speech yourself:
