Do you struggle with anxious thoughts or worry about the future?
If so, you are not alone.
The good news is, there is a way you can finally win the battle with anxiety – and it’s not as complicated as you think.
“Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself” – Matthew 6:34
As Christians we are commanded not to be anxious.
While we know this, sometimes it can be hard to live this out when the storms and struggles of life overtake us.
But the root of anxiety comes down to not fully trusting God.
If God is truly sovereign and in control, then what do we have to fear?
As humans, we can become upset at a perceived “loss of control” over a situation.
But it’s at that moment we need to remember God is ultimately in control – and His purpose for our lives can never be thwarted.
Learning how to trust God – EVEN IF things don’t turn out the way you hoped… and EVEN IF you don’t understand – will help you put the knife through your anxiety.
Does this mean you’ll never be afraid or anxious again?
Likely not.
We are fragile as human beings, often swayed by our emotions and feelings.
However, you can learn how to use the Bible as a weapon to fight back against your anxiety, so when you feel anxious thoughts coming on – you’ll be able to take every thought captive and learn how to put your trust in God in real time.
The enemy loves to get believers spun up on all the things they can’t control.
And if you let him, he’ll have you spend your energy focused on regretting the past, or fearing the future.
As a result, you’ll miss living out what God has for you in the moment.
Personally, I’m a firm believer in memorizing Scripture so you’ll have God’s Word in your mind and can recite it whenever you feel under spiritual attack.
Here are a few verses you can add to your “fighter verse” arsenal to combat anxiety.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” – Philippians 4:6
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” – John 14:27
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
“So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” – Hebrews 13:6
“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.” – Proverbs 12:25
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” – Psalm 56:3
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7
” I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10
If you are struggling with anxiety today – please know you are not alone.
Spend time in God’s Word reminding yourself of His faithfulness, and learn how to cast your anxieties onto Him.
He loves you.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
