“Today is a historic day, as Kentucky continues to lead the charge in implementing strong pro-life protections for its citizens.”
“We applaud the decision by the Sixth Circuit, which affirms the commonsense notion that patients should be well equipped with relevant information before making important medical decisions.”
“I am grateful to be governor of a state that values every human life. And we are committed to continue our fight on behalf of the most vulnerable among us.”
There was another major pro-life win in Kentucky in early April as abortion clinics will now be required to provide mothers with an ultrasound of their baby and audio of their baby’s heartbeat before they decide to terminate their pregnancies.
They will also have to give a description of what the ultrasound reveals, as well.
This is huge, as statistics suggest that anywhere from 78-90 percent of women who are abortion-minded end up changing their minds after they are provided an ultrasound of their baby. In fact, it is estimated that 400,000 babies or more have been saved in this way.
These are lives saved! Souls allowed to live a life that they may have been forced to forfeit.
Not only this, but many lives around these babies have been changed as well.
Although there are those who will try to convince you that there is not a significant percentage of women who regret their abortions, years of study and very thorough research suggests that 60 percent or more of women have regrets about their abortions.
In many cases, it is not just the mothers who are affected by this loss of life. Entire families experience the pain of abortion.
The loss of a grandchild, a father’s loss of his child, the loss of a niece or nephew. Not to mention the detrimental consequences that abortion has had on society as a whole. The consequences of abortion are painful and far-reaching.
Now, the state of Kentucky has a tool that can be used to save many babies from death and many more from the pain of that loss.
The ultrasound machine is a very powerful tool. Imagine how many lives could be saved if this was implemented all over the country.
It seems that close to one million babies are aborted each year in the U.S. alone. That’s a possible one million babies who could be saved from death and have the chance at life.
That’s also countless more lives who would not have to experience the after-effects that termination has on those who are close to it.
However, while the pro-life community rejoices, there are those who see this bill, House Bill 2, as a defeat.
Many in the pro-choice community feel as if this is a way to brainwash women out of their choice.
The bill had been previously blocked in 2017 because of this thinking. However, the judges last month found that the bill did not mislead, nor does the bill promote lies or deceit.
This bill does, in fact, reveal truth and leads the doctors to tell the mother even more about her child than she would have known had she not been given the option of an ultrasound or hearing her child’s heartbeat.
The problem with the pro-choice view is that pro-choice paints each pregnancy as a clump of cells that is inconsequential and worthless.
It seems that the ultrasound machine is proving the “clump of cells” view wrong. The mother can see her baby moving, and see their tiny hands and feet. Then, they are given the chance to hear the heartbeat of their child.
Perhaps they simply come to the realization that their baby is alive and is not just a bunch of cells with no life or feeling, and that what they had been told was a lie. Perhaps this is when they begin to learn the truth that a baby is a life and a soul and deserves to live as much as they do.
Although this is a great victory, there is still much more work to do.
There are organizations working now to get ultrasounds to as many abortion-minded women as possible, and to save as many lives as possible.
If you would like to find out how you could help women see their babies for the first time and help to ensure that at least some will see them again, you can visit www.preborn.org.
And don’t ever forget that the most important thing that you can do is pray for these mothers, babies and families, for the power of prayer is one of the greatest powers of all.
