Rainbow flags lined her high school’s halls as young Christian, Gabby Helsinger, grieved the blatant propaganda being promoted at every turn.
She wanted to do something to stand for truth amidst so many lies.
But she didn’t vandalize the signs. She didn’t post hateful comments on social media. She didn’t rip up the signs in a fit of rage.
But what she did do got her suspended as punishment by outraged school officials and you won’t believe how it all went down.
Gabby turned to her faith and decided to fight darkness with the light. She leaned on her faith and did the only thing she knew how to do.
She thought of a creative way to showcase the truth of Christ against the lies of the enemy.
She decided to post her own signs — Bible verses.
Among the rainbow flags, she simply posted Bible verses to highlight the contrast.
But once authorities saw she had taken the initiative to post Bible verses on lockers and walls throughout the school, they retaliated.
Faithwire reported:
“I was coming back from lunch … and I [saw] the teachers taking them down, and the next day, I got called to the office and there is a letter that says that I have an ISS, which is an in-school suspension, and the reason why I have it is because ‘abuse of others, disrespect, rudeness’ because I put Bible verses up ‘targeting the GSA organization,’” she explained. “I did not know what the GSA organization was or meant.”
Gabby was simply posting Bible verses throughout her school, giving students a chance to see the truth of the Gospel in the midst of rainbow flags.
But because of her act of courage, her school suspended her and accused her of abusing others.
Even more heartbreaking, Gabby continued to share her reasoning for posting the Bible verses – she wanted to help others.
Faithwire continues:
“Seeing that there [were] people in my school that needed help…,” she continued. “They don’t need to be living in the confusion of wondering if they should be gay, bi, lesbian, trans — anything like that. And I know that God is the only way that they can be healed by that, and that’s why I did it. I was not targeting any kind of organization.”
Gabby’s courage to speak truth in the darkness should have been encouraged, not punished.
After all, being a teenager is tough. Many high schoolers are quick to simply “go along with the crowd” and are too terrified to speak out against the status quo.
Gabby could have remained silent, thinking it wasn’t worth the risk to speak out – but her love for Jesus and her classmates compelled her to act.
School officials could have supported her, realizing she had a different opinion and was responding in a peaceful way. But instead, they confused Gabby by punishing her, simply for posting Bible verses.
Gabby Helsinger saw her school supporting the LGBT agenda and decided to risk everything to speak truth. She had to be well aware her fellow classmates would mock her for believing in Christian values, or that her school might retaliate against her.
However, Gabby’s faith was clearly important to her and she realized we are called to still speak the truth of Christ, even if it is unpopular.
While the school may have punished her, Gabby’s mom stood by her daughter and posted a Facebook status calling out the school for punishing her daughter for her Christian faith.
Fox News reported:
“Lebanon schools celebrates evil and punishes righteousness!!” she posted, adding that she appealed the punishment. “Posting a Bible verse is not abuse of others, disrespect/insolence/rudeness and in no way was it targeting GSA.”
And sweet Gabby made her own Facebook video telling the world it was simply her love for God and for her classmates that caused her to post the Bible verses.
You can watch Gabby’s response here:
Let us take a moment and pray for those in our society who have bought the lies of the LGBT agenda which perverts God’s design for marriage. Pray God will put people into their lives who will reveal the truth with love, as it is only the combination of truth and love we are commanded to speak.
And let’s take a moment to pray for those in authority – that they will use their power for good and not punish those who take an “unpopular” stand against mainstream society.
Finally, let’s continue to pray for Gabby – pray that her faith will continue to deepen and that she will remain strong in Him and not grow weary for spreading the light of Christ in the darkness.
