Perhaps you are facing a rough season in life – and feeling like the situation will never get better.
Or maybe you are facing unexpected loss – and are consumed by grief and sorrow.
Whatever your lot, you can find true peace in Christ Jesus, and if you aren’t sure “how” – we’ve got a few tips to get you started.
Surrender
Often in life, we try to “fix” our problems with our human strength, completely shoving God out of the picture.
We think we are in control of our lives, but we aren’t.
Instead of trying to fix, manage, and control circumstances around you – surrender all to God.
Put your biggest struggle at the foot of the cross – and pray for God’s will to be done in your life.
You may think you want your will – but trust me – someone who has suffered from self-willed decisions – you most certainly do not want your own will!
Continue to surrender your problems and struggles to God, and watch Him work in your life.
Remember, His ways are better than our ways.
He really does know best.
Keep The Faith
Satan is the father of lies, and he will try and get you to believe God has abandoned you or doesn’t care about your pain.
The devil’s lies are why we must take every thought captative – and test it against Scripture.
If you are confused, full of self-pity, or overcome by despair – know these thoughts and feelings are not from God, and combat them with the truth of Scripture.
Consider writing down or highlighting a few of your favorite “fighter verses” from Scripture – so you can recall them from memory and speak them out loud when you are in the thick of a battle.
Be Still
When storms come – our human instinct is to react – to make the pain stop.
Or, we keep ourselves busy, distracting ourselves from feeling any emotions.
Instead, take moments throughout your day to simply be still.
If you’re working, it could mean a 15-minute walk outside listening to Scripture verses on your phone.
Or it could be spending a portion of your lunch break reading a devotional and praying for God’s strength.
If you’re retired or a stay-at-home-mom – keep your house full of light and peace.
Play and sing worship music or hymns as you go about your day and take time to read Scripture each day.
And most importantly – find time to rest and take care of yourself – and spend quiet time with God.
As you draw near to God, He truly will give you a peace that surpasses all understanding.
The hits and blows of this world can be brutal – so surrender your pain to the one who can heal your broken heart – and teach you to sing (and really believe) all is well with your soul.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
