Many people live their lives in a state of intellectual elitism – thinking they are “too smart” to need God.
But then tragedy hits – and once the facade of intellectualism crumbles, they are brought to their knees and either seek God – or curse Him.
Darin was an atheist – who even admits that he “hated” Christians – but then his 2-year-old son died suddenly and Darin experienced a major shift that changed everything.
Before he knew Jesus, Darin made life miserable for those who loved God.
Whenever his wife talked about God, he would mock her and tell her she was talking to an “invisible man,” God Updates reported.
Darin and his wife desperately wanted to have children and after 7 years of trying, they gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Griffin.
Griffin was healthy and happy…
… until one day he wasn’t.
He ended up sick in the hospital, and while his parents thought he was improving – they received shocking news that changed everything.
The doctors reported sweet little Griffin was braindead – and that he would be off life-support within 24 hours.
Heartbroken, the couple spent their final moments with their 2-year-old son saying goodbye and overwhelmed with grief.
In his lowest moment, Darin was struck with the realization that he was completely powerless to change anything – and realized that even his intellectual mind could not save his son.
God Updates reported:
“As the couple took turns spending their last moments with their son, it was Darin’s turn to hold their son. But Darin felt like he couldn’t do anything to comfort Griffin. He felt as though everything around his son was growing darker with each minute that passed.
“I wasn’t able to comfort him at all. It was too much for me. It was the first time anything in my life was too much,” he recalled. Then he realized in a heartbreaking moment, “I am not man enough. I can’t comfort my own son, with fourteen hours left.”
Darin then described having a supernatural experience – where he knew that God was real, and his son was with Jesus.
This moment forever altered the course of his life.
He began to reflect on all the ways he had sinned against God, and not lived the life God called him to.
He decided right then and there to follow Jesus – and share the love of Christ with others.
Darin’s story is yet another reminder for us all that no person is too far gone for God to reach.
Sometimes it takes the death of a loved one or a major life storm to bring one to humility and soften a heart of stone.
God never wastes a tragedy, and he used the death of Darin’s precious son to lead Darin to seek Him and bring him to his knees.
If you know someone who openly denies God – don’t stop praying for them!
We may never know if they accept Jesus or not – only God knows that – but we can do our part by praying for them and be willing and available to share with them the hope we have in Jesus.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
