Earlier this year, a young teenage girl named Helmi began experiencing severe knee pain that kept her from one of her favorite activities: Soccer.
After only a few weeks, the pain got worse and her family knew they needed to take her to the doctor for testing.
A grave MRI revealed a condition that meant serious surgery for the young girl…
But God had other plans for her healing and the way He did so is “Raising Hallelujahs!”
As you may remember form our recent article, Bethel Music released their newest album “Victory” in January of this year. Very quickly, the song “Raise a Hallelujah” became the anthem of many Christians around the world dealing with pain, adversity, and heartache.
Along with the song, “Raise a Hallelujah” came a call to prayer for the son of Bethel Music’s CEO, Jaxon, who was suffering from a life-threatening illness.
As hallelujahs were being lifted from all over the world, Jaxon miraculously began regaining strength, until he was fully healed and released from the hospital’s ICU.
This song became a testimony for many across the globe and its ripple reached all the way to Finland.
Markus Korhonen is a Finnish minister and head of the Finnish mission organization “Missiomaailma.”
Markus, his wife, and three daughters live in Vantaa, located in the capital region of Finland.
The Korhonen’s oldest daughter, Helmi (meaning “Pearl” in Finnish), is an avid soccer player and hosts a smile that lights up every room in which she walks.
Unfortunately, walking became hard for Helmi in the beginning of the year when pain in her right knee began to surface.
After a few pain-filled weeks, the family took Helmi to the doctor and began praying for a miracle.
Back at the doctor’s office, an x-ray was ordered and dear Helmi was sent in for magnetic imaging. Extensive examination of these images revealed that the knee bone had loosened and as a result, the cartilage in her knee joint had become completely dislocated.
The magnetic image showed a clearly disconnected area that had opened a passageway for liquid to flow underneath the detached bone.
This was alarming news for the doctors. After checking the imaging with a specialist and subsequent confirmation of the condition, a surgery was quickly scheduled for the following month.
The surgery was planned to fasten the loose cartilage back to the bone so as to prevent the situation from worsening.
Post-surgery involved six weeks of non-weightbearing for Helmi (only walking with crutches), followed by another six weeks of avoiding exercise such as soccer practice.
Helmi remained strong and calm as she prepared herself for the reality of such a major surgery, but the fear of possible mishaps and mistakes as well as the thought of not playing her favorite sport for three months lingered.
Markus and his wife, Marjanna were worried as their oldest daughter was about to undergo her first surgery, but they began lifting up a specific song in the midst of the storm.
“Raise a Hallelujah” became the soundtrack for this hectic season as the family prepped for such a serious surgery.
Finally, the day came for Helmi’s surgery and the Korhonen’s took her to the children’s hospital.
The bed was prepared and the operating room was ready as the doctors went over the procedure one last time with Helmi and her parents.
But God had something miraculous in store.
It started one year ago, when Helmi’s mom Marjanna woke up in the middle of the night with a single word on her mind: Tunturikatu – the name of a street in downtown Helsinki.
She wrote the street name in her phone thinking that it meant something important. For an entire year, she thought and waited for what the name could possibly mean.
Back at the hospital, the Korhonens watched their firstborn be wheeled into the operating room and were prepared to wait for the surgery for many hours.
They left the hospital to go for a walk in the surrounding area. Suddenly, their gaze was directed to the street sign above them: Tunturikatu.
In the same moment, Marjanna’s phone rang. It was the hospital.
The doctor had called to explain that the surgery had been stopped!
As they began to make the first incision, the doctors saw a knee that one month ago was afflicted with an unhealable injury and saw that it was now completely normal.
The piece of the knee that was previously detached had been miraculously healed — there was not even a trace of detachment.
Helmi’s patient record currently reads: “there is no damage to the knee.”
Helmi and her family remembered their anthem throughout this ordeal, and they remembered Jaxon’s miraculous healing brought about by God through the “Raise a Hallelujah” song and the worldwide prayer it inspired.
Praise God for Helmi’s miraculous healing and her and Jaxon’s powerful testimony!
The power of testimony knows no limit of time, distance, or number.
The power of a young boy healed in California caused a rise in faith, prayer, and healing for a young girl in Finland.
When you are in a time of testing, pain, or doubt, lift up a song of praise and hallelujah to God, and watch the walls crumble before you!
Then, when your breakthrough comes, share your story to encourage others.
This is how the body of Christ works to build each other up.
