“Great meeting, and Jesus was lifted up!”
These are the words of Daryl Price, Executive Director of the Noonday Baptist Association, when asked about the Sure Connexions luncheon he attended this fall.
For Sure Connexions, “Come Hungry. Leave Inspired,” is not just a tagline.
It is the mission of this non-profit business ministry.
Sure Connexions seeks to be a launching pad for businessmen and women in the Atlanta area to encourage, inspire, and empower one another in their various places of work.
Founder Wayne Odom understood the requirements of the job when he entered corporate America. However, he was not content to compromise his witness and refused to shut the “lid” over the light of Christ in his soul.
Odom’s heart was, “to be missionary to the people who work in the companies that are all around me, and to my coworkers and the people I interact with.”
He met with trusted mentors in order to come up with a surefire plan to reach those around him with the Gospel. In 2007, he founded Sure Connexions with the purpose of connecting other visionary leaders who wanted to shine bright for Jesus in the corporate world.
Odom not only wanted to get leaders in the same meeting space for encouragement, he wanted to find a time that would not interfere with their work commitments. He came up with the idea of networking lunches where these leaders not only came to fill their stomachs, but also their hearts.
Sure Connexions desires to be equally appealing to those who follow Jesus and those who simply seek to live lives of excellence yet long to find the key to unlocking true excellence.
Odom and organizers settled from the onset of Sure Connexions to base their event around “balancing your career, family and faith.”
They wanted marketing to be appealing to non-believers in order to bring them into their lunches and introduce them to their life-changing Savior.
It is an amazing environment where God brings together believers from different areas of business and ministry leadership. Pastors, lawyers, politicians, and business owners all band together to be a force for Christ in their state.
The luncheons are currently hosted throughout the Atlanta area, and you may be wondering what a meeting encompasses.
Firstly, attendees enter each lunch ready to be filled both physically and spiritually.
Every meeting begins and ends with a time of prayer. This time of prayer serves as a reminder that Jesus is the true reason for the meeting. His Spirit is the one who binds these believers together and is the fuel that will fill the hungry hearts in attendance.
Following prayer, a few members come up to give overviews of what God is doing in their line of work. This is an encouraging time to hear about the victories that come from being banded together for Christ.
As members finish giving reports on their area of ministry, lunch is served and the guest speaker is introduced. Each guest speaker shares about how God is moving in their area of work. Hearing about the victories of Christ in government, local churches, and area businesses is a highlight of the luncheon.
God is truly working through our leaders who put their faith in Him!
Attendees are left encouraged to live out their faith, knowing that God is faithful and claiming victory all throughout the world. For attendees who are not believers, the Gospel is clearly shared and an invitation to trust in Jesus as their Savior and Lord is made at each lunch.
Every luncheon ends by giving job-seeking attendees an opportunity to connect with potential employers. This has proven highly effective at connecting like-minded believers with talent in the marketplace. Finding an employer with a similar heart for Jesus is invaluable in our world today.
The reach of one simple lunch goes far beyond that day. Throughout the years, God has used Sure Connexions to create a ripple of change.
Spencer Wood, college senior in the Atlanta area, shares how Sure Connexions is inspiring our next generation of leaders: “It was an amazing experience at Sure Connexions, because it was not just about professional development, but instead an opportunity to meet high-level business people who take their religious faith seriously as part of their identity. Seeing those examples is really inspiring.”
Sure Connexions meets multiple times throughout the year. For more information, be sure to check out sureconnexions.net. If you are interesting in starting a luncheon for your area’s visionary leaders, email [email protected]
Organizations such as Sure Connexions should remind us to pray for those in leadership.
Pastors, lawyers, politicians, and business owners are often put under great amounts of pressure. Just like us, their faith is tested each and every day. However, the decisions they make often effect many outside of their immediate sphere of influence.
Sure Connexions should also remind us of the importance of reaching people with the Gospel. Jesus is our only hope. The main heart and drive behind this organization is the Great Commission and it should be our mission as well.
Spend time today praying for the men and women God has placed in various leadership roles all around our nation.
Ask Him to place a leader on your heart who needs encouragement today and be obedient in following His leading.
Also, spend time in prayer over your area of ministry. Wherever you are, God has given you the ministry of reconciliation. Be bold in proclaiming the Gospel.
