Christian radio host William Neil “Doc” Gallagher pled guilty to running a massive Ponzi scheme that scammed more than 190 seniors out of millions of dollars.
The victims include elderly Christians who were left in shambles – some even forced to sell their own homes or go back to work part-time to supplement their social security income.
So how did a man manage to fool so many?
A true wolf in sheep’s clothing, Christian radio host “Doc” Gallagher deliberately targeted Christians at church, taking advantage of their kind hearts and generosity.
Posing as a financial advisor, he convinced hundreds of people to fork over their hard-earned cash – leaving behind a trail of destruction and deceit.
The Christian Post reported:
“’Doc’ Gallagher is one of the worst offenders I have seen,” Lori Varnell, chief of the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Elder Financial Fraud team, said in a press statement.
“He ruthlessly stole from his clients who trusted him for almost a decade. He amassed $32 million in loss to all of his clients and exploited many elder individuals. He worked his way around churches preying on people who believed he was a Christian.”
He pretended to be a “licensed financial advisor” and had previously been the CEO and president of Gallagher Financial Group which claimed to be a “vehicle of God’s peace.”
Those who were victims of Gallagher’s scam spoke out – pleading with the judge to sentence him for life.
The Christian Post continued:
“I’m afraid my money is going to run out,” Judy Dewitt, one of the victims, said. “It’s a very scary thing.”
Another victim, Susan Pippi, said: “I don’t trust anybody anymore, except for God and my family.”
In this fallen world, there will be predators who use their gifts to deceive and take advantage of others.
The Bible warns us we are sent out like “sheep among wolves” – and this story shows just how wicked some people can be.
In addition to facing three life terms in prison, “Doc” will have to stand before our Heavenly Father one day (as we all will) and give an account.
When things like this happen, it can be tempting to lose faith in everyone and everything.
Naturally, many people were hurt and horribly betrayed in this massive Ponzi scheme and have lost the ability to trust fully.
But we must always remember to never lose our trust in God – He sees everything – even the hidden parts no one else can see.
Vengeance is His, and He is a just God.
One day, He will right every wrong and make all things new.
Sometimes we get to see justice happen on this side of heaven, but even if not, God is still sovereign and always on His throne.
For now, at least “Doc” is behind bars where he can no longer prey on the vulnerable and take advantage of anyone else ever again.
