Sarah Anne Sumpolec began experimenting with the occult as a teenager – not realizing the danger she was in.
Her father introduced her to the craft and she felt that it “bonded” them together – until he aimed a shotgun at her head.
While her life was spared and he never pulled the trigger – Sarah Anne began going down a downward spiral where she contemplated taking her own life – but then one day everything changed.
Like most teenagers, Sarah Anne was searching for her identity.
As Christians, we know our true identity can only be found in Christ, but those who don’t have Jesus look to the world to find their way.
Sadly, many people “searching for answers” turn to the occult hoping to know the future and “find their place” in this world.
And these days, tarot cards, fortune tellers, and even witchcraft have become mainstream – with many people thinking it’s harmless fun.
But it isn’t…
… which is why the Bible is clear in its warning to avoid the occult.
“And when they say to you, “Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?” Isaiah 8:19
Sarah Anne shared that, at first, she thought she was communicating with “good spirits” and practicing “white magic” – but then she quickly saw the deception of Satan – and realized she had been lured into a dark world.
The Christian Post reported:
“Since the power source that witchcraft taps into comes from Satan, a lot of stuff actually happens. I don’t even like to think about the things I saw,” she wrote.
“Yet, just because “stuff happens” doesn’t mean that it’s truth. Satan does have some limited power on Earth, so that’s why psychics are sometimes right and why witchcraft seems to “work.” Don’t mistake Satan’s power for God’s. They can’t even compare!”
Amen.
Thankfully, even though Sarah Anne fell into a pit of darkness – there was hope.
While in college, Sarah Anne met two Christians and was immediately drawn to the peace they exuded.
She began eavesdropping in on their Bible studies, and when she was invited to attend one – she did – and heard the true Gospel message of God’s invitation of love and grace to all of those who put their faith and trust in Jesus.
Sarah Anne accepted Christ that night – and she burned all the witchcraft paraphernalia and idols from her past – trading the darkness for the light of Jesus.
Praise the Lord!
The occult is a deadly trap and sadly many people – even those who profess Christ – fall prey to its deceptive powers.
Thankfully, there are some who make it out and accept Jesus – and go on to caution others from making the same bad choices.
If you’ve ever thought about dabbling in the occult – whether through horoscopes, tarot cards, or fortune tellers – let Sarah Anne’s story serve as a warning.
While God’s power is stronger and reigns supreme – the enemy still has jurisdiction on this side of heaven.
Resist him, and serve the Lord.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
