As Christian parents, it’s important that the films we introduce to our families are uplifting and encouraging in the faith.
Thankfully, this year has been a productive one for Christian films.
So you won’t want to miss these powerful faith-based films of 2019:
Whether you are looking for inspiration or a down-right miracle, we’ve compiled a list of movies wonderful for all age groups.
Some of the best movies are those based on true stories, and this one starring Stephen Baldwin is no exception.
Based on the real-life missionary Graham Staines, this film takes you to India in the year 1999 where Staines sacrifices his time and resources to teach children who have leprosy.
Then tragically, this modern day saint passes away himself. Yet his selfless devotion to God and those who suffer from terrible illness is truly inspirational.
You won’t be disappointed in this heart-felt performance by Baldwin and his co-stars.
Released in February, Heavenly Deposit follows the life of a man named Peter whose father died when he was young.
Losing his faith after his father’s passing, Peter struggled in his life as a failing actor.
Yet, when all seemed hopeless, Peter receives an unexpected encounter with God that he simply can’t ignore — and nothing is the same after.
In this tumultuous time in our country, watching a movie that reinstates priorities and hope is a must see for 2019.
3. XL: The Temptation of Christ
The temptation of Christ is one of the most talked about Biblical stories. So, it only makes sense to bring it to cinematic life.
Sean Ardalan plays the role of Christ as He fasts for 40 days and 40 nights and faces temptation by Satan.
Jesus refuses all worldly needs, showing His triumph over sin and empathy to our weakness. (Hebrews 4:15)
Check out this powerful film and get reacquainted with a story that will ignite your faith and bring you closer to the Lord.
Chrissy Metz, star of the hit television series This Is Us, goes a different direction in this movie that has the whole Christian community talking.
Released in April, Breakthrough tells the true story of a young man who beats incredible odds.
After falling through thin ice on a frozen pond for fifteen heart-pounding minutes, doctors give a bleak prognosis.
Then the mother of this young man begins to pray in the emergency room. In a sudden answer to prayer, the young man is revived, and his life is changed forever.
Famous Christian rapper Lecrae, who also stars in the film, sees the movie as a much-needed reminder of the presence of God in our everyday lives.
A new movie coming out in August is the fun-loving children’s film, Bible Bees.
The movie tells the story of little bees that enjoy telling each other Bible stories, giving kids a memorable way to see their favorite characters from the Bible come to life.
The whole family will enjoy watching these cute bees get excited about lessons we all can benefit from.
Plus, the kids will be happy to have a movie geared toward their age group. So, don’t forget the popcorn and make it a fun family night!
6. Finding Grace
Finding Grace tells a story too many of us can relate to with a troubled teen named Alaska who finds life tough after her mom leaves.
Her mom “takes God with her,” according to Women’s Daily, leaving Alaska to wander through life in a contentious way.
Alaska’s destructive behavior eventually gets her arrested and sentenced to 100 hours of community service.
The sentence turns out to be a blessing in disguise, leading her towards God.
There are more faith-based films coming out in the following months, so be sure to keep your eyes out for these movies that embrace strong morals, family values, and a God-centered life.
Please tell us in the comments section if you’ve seen any of these movies or if you have a particular film that led you to Christ after watching it.
