Bethan Simpson was 20 weeks pregnant when she found out her baby had Spina Bifida.
Doctors tried to scare her on all the complications her baby would have – including difficulty moving and even brain damage.
They pressured her to abort her baby – but Bethan refused. And just wait until you hear where her baby is today.
To start, many doctors automatically assume if a baby is going to be born with special needs, that their life isn’t valuable or worth saving.
Of course, nothing could be further from the truth.
Not only do many babies born with special needs go on to defy medical odds – many of them live long and healthy lives – despite their initial diagnosis.
And for those who still struggle with medical complications – just because they have a physical or intellectual disability, doesn’t mean their life is less valuable.
All babies are created by God and precious to Him.
Bethan felt the same way about her baby, which is why she didn’t even entertain the thought of abortion.
She recalls what happened once doctors learned her baby girl had a defect on her spine.
The Daily Mail reported:
“When I was 20 weeks pregnant, doctors performed a scan which confirmed she had a small defect low down on her spine and I was offered a medical termination there and then.
‘That was never an option for us and something we never considered; we were told a lot of people choose to terminate because babies often won’t have function of their legs and can’t walk or talk.”
Instead of aborting her baby, Bethan underwent a relatively new surgery – where doctors actually operated on her unborn baby while she was still in the womb!
Praise God the surgery was a success – and Bethan’s daughter Eloise was born healthy and continues to defy all medical odds.
The Daily Mail continued:
“Speaking of her daughter Eloise, Bethan says: ‘She doesn’t need any physiotherapy; she can run, jump, spin, climb a flight of stairs, climb tables, use her climbing frame and she’s very sporty.”
Incredible.
So many pregnant women feel pressured to choose abortion once they find out their baby will have special needs.
Sadly, doctors are often the ones scaring moms into thinking there are no other options.
But Eloise’s story is a beautiful reminder that every life matters – and that every baby deserves the chance to be born.
Praise God Bethan and her husband chose life for their baby!
We wish them well as they enjoy the beautiful gift of life in their precious daughter Eloise!
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17
